Fuel Consumption - Surprising !

As I've not had the Rock for that long I wanted to get an idea of fuel consumption. Filled up literally to the brim then went out for a long ride taking in a mixture of roads, including motorways / major & minor roads etc.
As I rolled up back at the house, the fuel light came on with 165miles on the clock. Took the bike out again at the weekend ; didn't dare take too long a route to the petrol station, but as I pulled into the garage the clock read 175miles.
I managed to squeeze about 15.5ltrs in, so effectively 5ltrs left in the tank.
I was quite surprised by the fuel consumption... Approx. 50mpg ! So I should be able to clock up a max of 225miles, or perhaps 200miles safely on a long trip.
Does that add-up with everyone else out there ?

are these uk gallons? my rock is 40 or less for sure. maybe i'm just a crazy rider...

Yeh... Just been working it out now, converted the liters to Gallons ( imperial ) rather than US.
Pretty good ain't it. And to be honest I was really tankin' it most of the journey. Altho' I have read that the consumption improves at the higher constant speeds, which stands to reason I suppose ; bike getting to the optimal temp. etc.

I've had nothing near that. My light comes on about 100-110 like clockwork, and I'm getting about 34-38MPG. I goose it a lot, love to wheelie, and use a lot of engine braking. I hope that's what's making the difference.

My fuel light just came on at 108 miles. These are the total miles on the bike. I am questioning how well it works. Most mornings it is on for the first couple of minutes I ride and the last 5 miles it flashes on and off.

I've just got mine with 4000 on the clock.
I get 150 from brim full to warning light, working out at 10 miles per litre.
I was hoping for better when its loosened up some more.

3722km on the clock, just been serviced and had a Wunderlich Trimm installed.....and have jumped from close to 7 litres per 100km to closer to 6.5...... that's 41 -> 43mpg.
And my typical run is my commute at 90mph on the highway. I can get *better* economy but twisties are not reserved for my journey to work....

My fuel light comes on at around 154 miles for my 'everyday riding.' I can well count on going to 180 miles before I actually start worrying about running out of gas (I have gone as far as 198 miles before filling up and added 4.5 gallons... which would mean just .4 gallons left, YIKES!).
For highway riding, longer trips, it comes on at around 168 miles or more.
I use 89 octane and don't really hammer the bike but I'm no timid tammy either. I regularly get between 42-46 mpg.
Since switching to all synthetic oils, the mileage seems to have gone up by a couple MPG.

I could be wrong, but wouldn't that mean that there is .9 gallons left?

Never thought about total mileage... Mine has done approx. 5700miles, which isn't anywhere near run-in for 'BM from what I'm told. 16k is the magical figure from what I heard.
I'm quite a smooth, fast rider, so not sure if that makes the difference or not. Suffice to say the MPG are more than I could have hoped for !

I do 95% of my riding in the city and get 25mpg, if I'm lucky. I'm a big guy and love blasting around in the city, but the mileage sure suffers.

I've seen two differnt tank capacities for the Rockster: 5.4 and 4.9. I go with the 4.9 cause I figure it'll keep me outta trouble.

My fuel light comes on when I've used 3.8 Gallons (U.S.). Having looked at the electrical trip mechanism when I had the pump out to change the filter, I would guess that is pretty consistent for us R1150R's be they rocksters or roadsters.
I know I've got up to 1.2 gallons of reserve before things get really risky, so I just check the tripmeter when I see the fuel light come on and do a little quick math in my head to estimate how many miles I can get away with before pulling up to a pump somewhere.
At 165 miles / 3.8 ga I know I'm getting about 43 mpg. So assuming the same riding style, windage, etc... I'll plan to gas up at around 210 miles on the trip meter.
With the Sargent seat, I'm not as anxious to stop as I used to be..
