Went to the BMW shop today and bought a pair of injector/throttle body covers for an early R1100RS. They snap right on the throttle bodies like they are made for them (they are!), they are matte black plastic, they protect the vulnerable plastic injectors and they look cool.
I have bought two sets now, and I keep losing the right one. Does anyone have a good idea about how to keep them secure? Does anyone have an extra right cover they would like to trade for a left????

If you look at the top of the page (this page) you see Topics Index. Next to that are some clickable pages. Click on Tech Tips & Reviews and scroll down, you will see this entry with pics.
DarthRider submits this great tip: "OK you inveterate tinkerers, here's a good one for you. Went to the BMW shop today and bought a pair of injector/throttle body covers for an early R1100RS. They snap right on the throttle bodies like they are made for them (they are!), they are matte black plastic, they protect the vulnerable plastic injectors and they look cool. And get this - they cost $5.00 for the pair!"
Also, at A&S in the illustrated catalog they show the part (I think I paid $3.00 for them there).

I can't get it to link so you will just have to paste the above site in your browser and that will take you to the illustrated catalog that shows the part - it's part #13 on page 35 (you have to count down 35 pages).
I can't take a picture right now, but if nobody knows what I'm talking about then I will try to get a picture later tonight.

I've had my r since Jan/03. I gave up trying to keep the cover on by June/03. Seems to run faster without it!

i put the covers on in Nov. and no problems. went to the techs & tips site checked out - Richard H. re: r1150r's not 1100's. his suggestion to trim the right side cover, due to angle of injectors on right side, worked just fine.

I bought a pair of these last year, the Dealer suggested I drill a small hole in them, and run a wire tie through it, He had heard that there was a problem keeping them in place. I haven't lost one, but know of many folks who have.

Yes .... run a cable tie through them, and they'll stay on forever .... will try to take a pic of mine and post it here.
btw, why only the right side?

I lost the left side a week ago. Guess I must be special
The covers attach to the injector housing with a C clip but the housing bodies aren't smooth cylinders - there are ridges on the lateral sides. When the C clip grips these ridges, the cover seems to stay in place. But, if they grip the smooth sides, they'll slip off. At least that's what I think is happening.
I'm deciding whether to buy a second set or just toss the right side.

I'm going to order another right side and give it another try as soon as you guys show me how to get it to stay on. If a drill is involved.............well, I'll just have to ask a neighbor.
Marcus, I have an extra left side cover. If you would like to have it, PM me with your address.

Pictures speak a thousand words ... juz so sorry these came so late ... the injector is secured by a cable tie, through 2 small holes drilled through the ends of the injector.

I've got them on the Rockster - and did so on the previous one too.
I've discovered why they pop off too.
every now and again you'll catch one with your trouser leg, most times they won't move - but the one time they do - they'll fall off.

I'm still missing the right one. I checked at A&S in their illustrated catalog to order one again, and they do not list it anymore. I suppose that means they have run out of them??? Beemerboneyard doesn't have them either. Any ideas of where I can get the right side throttle body cover?

Kristi, as you're riding along the highway. Keep and eye out on the shoulder for loose ones. With none left in stock they must have all been bought to replace lost ones.
Just kidding. Did you guess that already? Try BMW of Salt Lake, Chicago BMW, IBMWR.ORG marketplace...
BMW Part# 13541341589 - Covering Left
I haven't seen those anywhere lately, but it may be because I just haven't been looking.

Check with Hamersley BMW. Their parts fische lists both covers for $4 each. Granted its Monday evening, but the site allowed me to order one of each. Will have to wait and see if they are in and get shipped.
