BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I purchased some new system cases with the key lock things. My BMW dealer said they didn't have anyone who knew how to install them. My mistake for driving my bike there. Thought it would be easy.

On the mounting bracket there appears to be some plugs for where the locking tongues may go. I poked around with a screw driver. They don't seem to wanna come out.

Anyone install their cases themselves? Tips?

I just don't wanna wreck anything.

I am pretty laughable as a mechanic and I did it myself. Assuming you are looking at the same things I am thinking of, there were plugs to be knocked out, the mounting bolts threaded into them. They were pretty tight as I remember, but I was able to reach through from the opposite side and knock them out with a thin punch. Although I don't like the look when they are on (wide) they allow me to carry rain gear so I can make my 80 RT commute more often on the rock.

Those 'plugs' are NOT plugs...if your mounting rails are anything like the ones for the Roadster.
DON'T dig anything out!
I thought the locking 'tongues' should fit into some grooves/plugs also, but THEY DON'T.
They just push out and up against the bottom of the rail...friction fit, when you push down on the handle.

Thanx for your imput guys. Yeah, that mounting bracket is on there tight. I wonder if one could buy those tools in socket form? The allan key is so slow. Could you imagen me out in the dealers parking lot for about an hour trying to figure this out in +35 Celsius poking at those plugs with a flat head screwdriver. Nowhere in the instrucktions that came with the cases say anything about the plugs.

On my rockster there clearly are plugs in the bracket. The locking tongues would snap off if i forced it for sure.

Ug...Parking lot at Argyle Motorsports in +35 degrees!!...facing South, and sheltered...must have been more like +45!!...you poor, poor bastard...

Yeah, I will never go back there again. I'm waiting till I move To British Comlubia first week of August. They have two dealerships there. One in Richmond and some other one in Vancouver.

I still can't seem to get this stupid plug out. I think it just looks like it comes out but doesn't.

you WON'T break the tongues by forcing the handle down.

You're right. Sorry for the bother. Stress and thinking don't seem to work for me hehe. Thank for the reassurance.
