goo day fellas
weel wanted or not i am going to have to put the bike up for winter soon
the advice i've had from all of your forums are to jack it up 2 extra inches
on the center stand so the rubbers dont touch the floor to avoid those flat spots,and i thank you for it
i am just wondering if i should maybe release the front and back adjustment
for the suspension to release any load on it ,sort of relax it

soldat dont stop riding in the winter get out there like a true rufty tufty bmw rider dont be a wimp? on the other hand if the snow,s to deep ski relax the bike and your shelf BE HAPPY

I don't know the answer to your question but I do know it's possible to keep riding in the snow. I got to spend quite a bit of time skiing in Vail when I was in college and the bartender at one of the local saloons rode his airhead to work nearly every day, somtimes with as much as a foot of new snow on the ground. He had tire chains on both wheels; his only complaint was that when the plows cleared the roads down to the pavement, he had to stop and take the chains off.
My hat's off to that guy - I don't have the balls to do that with a 550 lb bike.

With no bags, no muffler (save for the 9"tip) and a touring screen, mine is so well balanced that both wheels are off the ground at least an inch on the center stand.... As far as putting it up for the winter....sorry to hear but I understand some climates are not conducive to riding year round. I won't be riding everyday but I will when I can

Ahem - that looks cool (no pun intended), however:

This is not 1150, must be 1200 based on the shaft.
They are lighter than the 1150s.
In that snow it will be such a fun to fall, lift, fall, lift and even more of it until we all get hernia from the effort.

Not to mention that if there was THAT much snow in London it would be lethal to go on the road because of all the cars.
They can't drive when it is dry ...

well not only will the snow could be like 2 or 3 feet deep
i have no interest to drive with chain on (cornering)
i have a jeep for those days and snowmobile
the problem is the amount of salt that will be put down to melt it
it would be the equivalent of dipping your machine in the ocean for extended amount of time, i dont think so..........
love my machine too much for that, a yellow jacket

you dont see many of those ....
what you got to look for is just a blurr a little yellow
a lot of speed involve here .it's like deer hunting
you dont look for a whole yellow jacket just a little piece of it
and if you are very quick you might see one and a big grinn too

I've no interest either. We don't get as much snow as the maritimes but can you imagine being in the middle of snow-bound, 4x4 numnuts on that?

soldat.....with due respect, I don't believe one bit the theory that your tires will get flat spots if you keep your bike on the center stand for the winter.

First, like someone mentioned, the R1150R is so well balanced, naked that is, that it touches very lightly on the front wheel.
Second, with the bike on the center stand, the majority of the weight rests on the stand.
Third, I doubt very seriously that a few pounds, let's even say 50 pounds, on a tire that is just about rock hard (when inflated to 35-40 pounds) will leave any kibd of flat spot.
Fourth, I have had many bikes with all types of tires and weights and have yet to get any with a flat spot....unless you lock your rear wheel while riding!!!!
Fifth and last, I would be moreworried of the engine, gas and battery prep prior to storage. Install fresh oil and filter, add some Sta-Bil to a full tank and run the bike for at least 20 miles and keep a good trickle charger on.

Agree on all counts except the 5th. I just put them away with a full tank after a 20-30 mile ride. I change the oil at 5K miles and the filter at 10K.

This spring both my R1150R an R100R both started right up after 5+ months of storage with no battery charging. That has been my experience since I started using sealed batteries.

Of course I don't know what effect this has on the longevity of the drive train as I usually get another bike when one gets up to 180-190K miles.
