Given that our R's dont hve a gas gague, i use my trip meter to figure out when to get gas. It is still unnerving to see the gas light illuminate at 130 mile when I have an idea that I should be able to cover about 200 ...
what are your nubmers like??

My mileage is less than 150, at least I think so. I once got around 141 after riding with the warning light on for about 5 miles or so.
Lately my mileage has been less before the warning. More like 115! But, I think that's because I recently discovered a slow leak in my rear tire that has resulted in my tire pressure being 25-30 lbs instead of the 36 lbs that the manual says. Once I get that figured out, we'll see.

About 230 km the light comes on, 300 I'll be pushing the bike home. Aftermarket pipe and Y-pipe.

230? Wow, my light comes on at about 298 ~ 305. I don't drive very long after its aglow.

Light comes on between 135 and 160 depending on the openness of the road.
I never have to add over 3.7-3.9 gallons... so I should get be able to squeeze out 200+ if I would run it dry. But I'm too chicken to do that.

I go almost exactly 200 miles at a steady 70 mph on the highway until the light comes on, but only ~130 miles driving solely in town (until the light comes on). It usually takes ~ 4.4 gallons then (like the Owner's Manual says!). I calculate that running a full (5.7 gallon) tank empty (which we all know is BAD) would give me ~260 mile range on the highway (@45mpg) and ~170 mile range in town (@30mpg). My '02 RR doesn't have ABS and is all stock. On the highway I keep the revs ~ 3000-3500 while using overdrive, but usually higher in town where I never get into the top gears.

I typically go 170 miles before my light goes on and can comfortably go 200 miles before refilling while in commuting mode (my commute is 18 miles each way with a mix of highway and city driving). Typically when I fill up I put in at most, 5 gallons.
While in roadtrip mode I've easily gone 190 miles before the light comes on and I usually fill up soon, and usually put in well under 5 gallons.

There is a huge 'IF' factor here. 'IF' I fill the tank with a trickle fill right to the top and 'IF' I cruise under 120 I can run to 320 kms before the light, and then have another 80 kms to empty (done the 'empty' thing twice now!).
'IF' I get up it on a hot and fast run, I can easily lose a third of my range! Up in the Northern Territory where there are no speed limits on the open road, we did a run sitting at 180 km/hr for about an hour fifteen minutes. Let's just say that the tank was well on its way to empty when we stopped for breakfast! These things can be hellishly thirsty.

My light came on today at 145 miles. Didn't want to push it, as we were way out in the middle of nowhere. Found a gas station 12 miles later.

The "if" factor for me........
as low as 110 miles until the light comes on......4 gallons......that's fully loaded at open highway speeds.
up to 205 miles.......4 gallons..... at around 50 mph, mellow mountain road driving.
I average 135 miles per tank between orange light for CITY driving.
Either way it's better, and I hate filling up my car, and will do everything possible to ride my bike instead.

In the 17520mi I've done since I got my R home in June05, I've averaged just a hair under 47mpg. My reserve light comes on at just over 180miles, and I average 4.16gal per fill up. Since I added a Techlusion last October, the numbers are down about 3% from these averages....
I don't do a lot of city driving...mostly twisties and secondary highways....

Light usually comes on between 150 and 160 miles.
At just over 200 I run out of gas…

From another thread...
NoRRmad wrote:On a recent run on the Chief Washakie Trail through Wyoming, where each town posts its altitude along with the population figures ("Population -- 98, Altitude 8149") my low fuel light came on at 224.0 Miles, and when I filled it up -- with only 3.999 gallons -- the odometer read 230.3. Works out to 57.59 MPG. I think the altitude makes a big difference; less oxygen to burn, so the computer leans the mixture, and less air to push aside at cruising speed, so less power needed.

I have yet to run out of gas. I do a lot of city driving, not much freeway and highway sometimes. I average between 41 and 48 mpg, the fuel light might come on anywhere between 110 to 140 miles on the guage. Sometimes it comes on depending on how the bike is leaning and then goes off again. If it stays on I figure it's time to fuel up. Don't think I've put much more than 4 gallons in at any one time. What's it's capacity again? Need to look it up, I guess ...

Well, I've been very anal about fuel since picking up my 02 R1150R, (Black), in August. I like having the warning light but figured I'd better start tracking my mileage to see where I'd start running into trouble. I've keep a spreadsheet with each fill-up and after a little over 2K I've determined that my average mileage deviates by approximately 7-8MPG between City and Highway riding. I generally run at 70 in the open and average 48.5MPG and when in town drop to 41.5. I'm typically filling up between 175 and 200 miles and tend to need between 3.7 and 4.2 gallons.
my blended average to date for the 2K is 46.16 MPG and Miles and Miles of Smiles. I'm looking forward to this summer when I'll be trying to get some longer rides in, so far I've been limited to 100-300 mile rides.

My light came on at 125 yesterday, but I had had the lady on the back of the bike for the last 65 or so miles.

The light comes on between 145 and 180 miles, depending on what type of riding I'm doing. I usually worry when it gets to near 180 and I haven't seen the light. I usually don't go more than 20 miles after the light comes on.

anywhere from 120-140 normally. 165 or so on long trips.
NY gas sucks.

About 152 miles inside Athens
About 172 on the motorway
Do I have a problem?
