Given that our R's dont hve a gas gague, i use my trip meter to figure out when to get gas. It is still unnerving to see the gas light illuminate at 130 mile when I have an idea that I should be able to cover about 200 ...

what are your nubmers like??

I also use my trip meter as a "mock" fuel gauge. The furthest I've gone on a tank is about 185 miles. My light was on at around 140 miles and I stopped at the first station I could find. I was certain I running on fumes. In hindsight, and after checking my fuel consumption (51 mpg, solo on the highway and with no cases), I could've gone another 25 miles or so no problem.

Commuting to work and home, I get about 145 miles before the light comes on. On the weekends on spirited rides, I usually get about 170 miles on a tank. The most I have ever gotten on a tank is 200 before the light came on. I think a lot has to do with the style of riding being done and how much time you spend at the pump. The time I got 200, was on a road trip where if you ran out of gas on the way to the next way point, there were no stations to be had. So at the pumps at each stop, we took our time and made sure to fill up all the way into the neck. If you just fill into the neck and hang the pump up, by the time you close the tank, the level will be way down and you can get another half gallon in if on the center stand.

My light goes on somewhere between 180-210 Km for everyday riding (home-work-home) and have gone 250-260 Km max (don't want to risk running out.

I do about 13-15 Km/L everyday, have done 22 Km/L on a Highway trip.

Most times the light comes on in the 160/170 mile range. With the light just on there are 1.2 gal. left in my tank - I measured it. Would give total mileage of just over 200.

How come my post created a duplicate thread?

I have never used all the gas in the tank, so I'm not sure how much I could get on a full tank. However, I have gone about 230 miles before without filling up. Usually my yellow light comes on at about 167 miles unless I'm out cruising on the slab, then it consistently comes on at 197.

I'm assuming that a full tank is when the yellow warning light comes on....at least that is what I took it when I cast my vote. 8)

My warning light comes on between 185 and 202 miles on a full tank. The variation comes from the direction and speed of the wind, not to mention what kind of load I'm carrying while touring.

I've gone as far as 230 miles on a full tank, but I was running out of gas to the point the engine was sputtering. I had to shake the bike back and forth to get gas from the various nooks & crannies of the tank down to the bottom where they could be pumped to the engine. I barely made it to a gas station in time to avoid being stranded.

I cruise at 70 - 80 mph on the highway.

I've hit 225 miles on a tank; it took 4.7 gallons to fill it back up. The low fuel light generally comes on at 180 miles; it's been on at 135 miles before, but that was due to cruising at ludacris speed :D

Does anyone have any idea what the difference in fuel mileage is between the high and the low ratio 6th gear options?
