So does anyone ever modify a Boxster ? I don't mean plastic, I mean like hotter cams, intake mods, free up the breathing, rejetting / remapping, etc...?
Where would one learn of such mods ?

The best place to get that information is San Jose BMW. Just the addition of a full Remus with open can bumps the RWHP from 100 to 106 on the r1200 RT/ST/R engine. This link has a very good study of the addition of a Remus and what does and does not work.

If you are intrested in such a system, call SJBMW at (408) 295 0205, Ext. 5 and ask for a "Deans Deal", you will be plesently suprised. I get nothing out of this, as the founder of SJBMW in the early 70's and as the person who hired the current owner, they let me have fun doing this.

If you mean a Boxer, most folks leave the engine as it is and tweak other stuff, like the exhaust set up or cosmetic things.
The serious re-tooling gets saved for when/if major repairs are needed which is generally waaaay down the line in miles.

Have a look at RB Racing for a common sense approach.
