how much power?

Can anyone compare the power of accel of the r1200r to a r1200gs?

I had a 12gs and we have a 12GS ADV and a R12R.
IMO, the R accelerates significantly harder. Faster handling too. Better pure streetbike, IF you don't need the legroom or roughroad/dirt capability.

I don't know yet, I am a twin guy at heart, had a few K's, like the smooth K75C the best, but FOR SURE will ride the r1200r before I buy a K.

Race, posted this in another thread.
Comparing the power of the R1200GS and R1200R, the stock RWHP on the GS is 82 to 84, the stock RWHP of the R1200R is appx. 100, the torque on both engines is about the same.
Adding a FULL Remus exhaust to both brings the RWHP on the GS to the hi 80's and the R1200R to 106.
The R1200R is a lot faster in every way and you will average about 48 MPG.

I don't have any direct experience with the GS, but the R is plenty quick off the line and pulls very hard and very smoothly all the way to the redline in every gear. It's a lot quicker than the 1150. I'm getting pretty good mileage, too, at about 48 mpg.

+1 on the milage: Im doing 48mpg last check and that is not going easy on the throttle.
Acceleration: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Then you need to pick the bugs out of your teeth because you were grinning too much during the acceleration phase.
Keep in mind that the bike wet is about 495 pounds. Much lighter than a GSA, and slightly lighter than the GS.

Dont know; I made the mistake of riding the R first, and bought it when I got back to the dealership after 30 minutes of twisties.
The R will shove your eyeballs back in your head it accelerates so well.
I have embarrassed several UJM crotch rockets by easily staying with them off a light while not bent over like a pretzel!
The gearing is such that you do not have to do a lot of downshifting to pick up a lot of speed really quickly in any gear.
All this a great gas milage too !

The KR is almost as fast as a KS (which I had). The R12R isn't as fast in a straight line, especially over 120 mph.
If straight line very high speed acceleration is your thing, the KR or KS is a much better tool.
Guarranteed on the street, no matter your skill, in anything other than a straight line drag, you'll at least keep up with your equally skilled buddies if you're on a RR, no matter what they have.
It's that good.

Motorcycle Online just posted a comparo of the R1200R vs. a couple other Eurobikes. While the R didn't do well compared to the Tuono and Brutale in the sharply focused test, it was noted that the R12R has 102 horsepower and 79 ft. lbs. of torque. That's quite impressive for an air cooled motor. The torque figure rivals most Harley big twins and the horsepower is nearly that of the latest 600cc sportbikes.

Funny you should say that...well they sould say that. There are those here that say the r1200r is better than Tuono in many ways. For me, it has to be a BMW. No other dealer with in many many miles. Plus there are qualities to the BMW, the the other mfgs' will never match....imho
