I don't know why, but I was searching again for that great picture of the "Wudo special" from the Intermot Cologne bike show previously posted by Rivi. It might sound odd, but along with the South African reviewer posted elsewhere on the board, the only thing stopping me buying a 1200R is that damned ugly headlamp!

It is a ROUND headlight! That is the shape a headlight is supposed to be. How can you make a proper shaped round headlight any prettier?

Mark - it's just me being super-picky, it still looks a little "pushed in" to me - compared with previous R's. Weird, but perhaps it's my inner voice of reason begging me not to blow two months take-home on the 'price to change'.

It's a great bike, but am I really going to get a benefit over & above my current ride? The Wudo fairing would make it perfect though ...

Hey Hirsty.... me too..at first anyway. But then I started taking a closer look. I might be wrong but, take a look at the bracket the turn signals are mounted too. That bracket is whats giving the headlight that "Pushed-in" look. It's the style of the bracket, it's shape. This could be easily altered: toss that bracket, make another thats more hidden, mount the winkers elsewhere, etc, etc....Think about it, look at the pic above and remove the brackets and winkers.

Oh and....who ever designed that instrument cluster ought to be beaten & shot ! A hot-rod roadster needs two round gauges: a tach and a speedo with odo. Anything else is superfluous. The thought that a whole lot of other electronic info is needed is nonsense.

Oh and....I think the bike would look great with two bug lights, not too small, not too large. And then toss the instrument cluster and replace with two smallish instruments; a tach & speedo, maybe with bullet housings.

But thats just me....

I've also got a call into them for notification when this fairing will be available for purchase. Depending on price, quality, mounting brackets, etc. I will purchase. I really hope that a tinted shield is an option. Needless to say I'll have it color matched. My plan will be to run this late fall/winter and then run my mini shield during the summer months. I really like the "old style" look of it on the RR. I'll keep all of ya posted.

Not JUST you Rick. Those are my exact sentimonies also. I have the bike and love it the way it is but I would love it more with those additions. Like I would love any woman more with red hair.
The observations on the headlight bracket (Plastic) made me go look and see it in anyother light.
A number of good points you have made.

You know what I like about this bike? It looks like just a bike. Nothing over the top. Simple I mean, I even like the telelever now. Straight foward.

I like that it doesn't look like it's on testosterone, that it's not copying anything, including a speed triple, rockster or monster.

It's a bike. That goes like stink, looks good, is easy to ride and completely comfortable. Beautiful lines.

I'm so tired of bikes that are marketed as personality implants.

Looking close, looks to me like that Wudo bike has the stock headlight. Its not round.

I too prefer analog guages but am guessing they cost way more & weigh way more than the plastic/electronic stuf now used. Our old R1150R's are the last BMWs to use real guages.

Off topic a bit, but do you have any idea what they were doing with the airhead GS PD in the background?

Absolutely agreed. The Wudo fairing completes the picture for me by tidying-up the clocks & the lamp, it's also a bonus that it has almost DNA-like links back to some classic earlier machines. Hmmm, does anyone want to photoshop me an R90S black / silver paintjob

Very keen to see how the Wudo works out for you guys who already have an R1200R - I'm pricing mine up now for the new 'registration plate year' that starts here in March ...

Hmmm. I like it. If that fairing keeps the wind off of us at least as well as the touring screen does for the R1150R, I would seriously consider the R1200R as my next BMW steed. Makes you wonder why BMW doesn't offer something like that themselves.

I like the look of that fairing. Makes it look like a late seventies sportsbike. But I'd like some more pics and I'm fearing the price tag.

I'll bet there won't be any buffetting from that shape; it allows the wind to flow over naturally. Pretty much the same shape as the classic "Stone" (Oz reference) from the early seventies, one of which I add/remove from my Norton Commando as whim dictates.

Buffetting usually comes from tall, upright screens that people fit , thinking they can hide behind them. Air is forced upwards sharply and boils over the top in a mass of turbulence, and the area of low pressure behind the screen tries to suck the boiling air down onto you. Bigger is not necessarily better.

As for that "pushed-in" look an earlier post referred to, take a look at pretty well any naked bike from the last few years--think FZ-6, MV Agusta Brutale, Morini Corsaro, new Guzzi's--they all have that look.

I rather like the look of that Wudo offering, could tip me to a 1200R

So I finally translated enough German to actually order one and this is what I recieved from Wudo. I had to order another item over $10 in order to process the order since there's no price listed for the "CR12R". Now all I have to do is buy a R1200R!
