I phoned Stanton Industries Inc. today to buy a set of their famous headguards.

They have stopped manufacturing them. Apparently they have manufacturing problems.

The only real alternative I am aware of - are the Wunderlich all-carbon side covers (very nice, but at nearly £240 are touch too expensive, the Stantons were $199 = £100). Also - if you drop your bike - it will be a VERY expensive drop. Not to mention that they sell sets, not single items, you have to buy two.

Anyone, any ideas???

I'm guessing you've already looked at the BMW ones?

Part no 71607684065 gets you a set of two for a twin spark model.
I think you can get them individually, and there is a different set for single sparks.

I can't remember the exact cost, (<£50 for a pair?) but it was a lot less than Wunderlich. Any main dealer could give you the price.

They're plastic, so won't survive sliding too far down the road. But for low speed clumbsiness they're just right. Could save your blushes, and your wallet.

I'm not sure they'd wear any worse than the Carbon fibre Wunderlichs actually.

Anyway, I work on the basis that if I drop it fast enough to make the difference I'll have a whole lot more to worry about than a new head cover.

And if you're stuck at the road side you don't have to take them off the get at the plugs.

Quite right, and I am aware - high speed fall most likely will result in the bike flipping over. Getting hurt aside - the bike will be ruined.

The only thing is - if the Stanton's get in touch with the tarmac - they would even look better. The carbon would look absolutely ruined by anything more than cleaning them with polishing cloth, let alone tarmac surfing.

Anyone selling a pair of used Stanton's??? Scratched ones are also welcome!

You could get the Touratech ones for the 1150GS. They come in silver or black I believe.

That is a bit of sad news. I guess mine are now collector's item.

I have a set of Stantons and they protected my valve cover once when I dropped the bike and was far from home. I am certain that without them I would have been pushing it the 700+ miles it took me to get home. As it was, I only needed a hand full of large zip ties to reattach my system cases and secure my windshield to the back of my bike.
When I contacted Stanton they were very understanding and allowed me to buy a single.
Now I suppose I'll need to devise some protector for the Stantons. You know to keep them pristene in case of another unfortunate contest with gravity.
