Over the weekend I purchased a 2004 rr and will pick it up next week. Until I get my rear end on it and ride it, I won't consider it mine, so I'll wait until then to introduce myself as a new member. You have a great board here.

Anyhow, I'm already planning on a seat change. In contrast to many of you, I've always had good experiences with Corbin and love the feel. I've scoured the archives here and only found conflicting information about the issue of the Corbin seat height. Corbin lists their seat height at 29" which is 2 inches lower than stock. This won't work for me, I suspect. However, one member wrote that the Corbin actually raised his seat position.

Can any of you shed any light on this?

I have a Sargent seat.

Although the height may be the same, the seat is wider so I lose a fraction of an inch in height. The R stock seat is a narrower than my Sargent, but maybe that's why my stock seat gave me monkey butt at 200 miles but the Sargent is worth twice that.

The only Corbin I ever sat on was on a K1200GT, and that seat actually lowered the height over stock.

The Corbin seat I upgraded to is fantastic. Well made but heavy. It's one piece and what makes it so much better than stock (wide platform, stiff cushioning) also increases effective seat height. Though the seat platform is lower than stock, the wider platform causes the legs to splay out a bit and dangle off the side - but it's definitely worth it for longer hauls.

The stock seat broke my a** after 30 minutes of riding. Not much fun when I was I was heading out for 2-4 hours. Got the Corbin seat and have enjoyed every ride. It does sit a little lower, but because it's wider, like a saddle, you won't notice a difference in height, from the ground when stopped, but it is more compact while riding, however no complaints from me, 6'2".

The Corbin seat is wider than the BMW seat, the stock Cobin feels about the same height as the middle seat both standing over and on the pegs. I had corbin due a "Nose Job" on the seat which narrows up the front by about 3/4' - 1" now when my feet are down it feels like the low set in standover height. With the one piece design Corbin also enlarges the driver portion of the seat by about 1' to the rear, but this reduces the passenger portion by a like amount. This is the second corbin I have had and I am very happy with the seat. On the plus side you can order your seat with modfications at no additional cost when you order it, So if you can ride on one before ordering it will help you to know if any modfications are necessary. On the minus side customer service can be hit or miss, I had to send mine back to correct a defect and I would give them an A+ on the service. My buddy had to send his R1200GS seat back and I would give that one a D. The last thing is it takes about 1,500 miles to break it in, I had moments where I was not sure on this last one but as the miles added up it just got better and better I woundn't ride with out it now.

Thanks for the help. I'm especially concerned that the Corbin's lowered seat position will make the riding position too cramped-- the feet on the ground issue is not a problem.

I wrote to Corbin and got a largely indecipherable response, but if I understood them correctly they think that they can raise the seat height with extra padding. So I'm going to follow up with them.

dcameron-- At 6'2" you say that the Corbin has made the riding position more compact, but that it's still okay. No knee problems with it?
