Tank paintwork protection

I get scuffing of my petrol tank paintwork where my leathers(knees) touch the side of the petrol tank, probably due to the dirty air exiting from the oil coolers. I regularly polish the marks out but I guess eventually I will be through to the paintwork. I'm thinking of fitting some of these

Looks like you couldn't go wrong with that, Tony. Hopefully they'll have it pre-cut to fit your R. I wouldn't count on it, though. Just a guess, but I'd bet most of the pre-cut stuff is for the most popular sport bikes.
I've been using something similar on my gas tank for a couple of years now. Perhaps Snider's PaintGuard or some similar vinyl sheet product is available there in the UK. I got mine from here:

I cut the flat sheets to match the contours of my fuel tank, where they have been serving (successfully) as protection from a magnetic tank bag.

3M also makes a clear thick film that is pressure sensitive (no glue) that is commonly used over racing numbers etc. I've used it for under my tank bag to protect the paint and also on the sides of the tank where your knees tend to scuff the paint if you are wearing armour.
It comes in sheets, is inexpensive, can be cut easily into any shape, applies quickly . . . a winner in my books
