Offer for my Bike

I was at a gas station about 90 miles from home today when a man from Key West approached me and offered me $10,000 cash for my bike. He left a number for me to call because he will be in town for 4 more days if I want to make the deal.
I keep thinking, if I do this deal I'll have enough money (plus the money I'm getting for the sale of my FZ1) to pay cash for a K1200R or maybe buy a R1200S. But I don't know if I really want to get rid of my bike. It's an '05 with a 'non-stock' color (Granite Grey) and a tan seat (9000 miles non-abs) and there just aren't that many of those around, I think. But, I've wanted a KR or an RS for a long time now too.
He knows I am hesitant to sell my bike so he asked if I knew anyone else who has an R1150R - he is willing to pay fair market price and is driving back to Key West on Wed - so if you live within the route from Texas to Florida and want to sell your bike for cash - email me and I will get in touch with the guy or you can. In the meantime, I'm going to be thinking about the KR or RS or RST myself and decide, or something entirely different.

That sounds like a great deal! 10k cash!? For that you could most certianly afford one the the bikes you mentioned. You could go test ride them, and at the worst case, buy another R. I know there are a few of them for sale here in D/FW. I haven't seen one in Granite Gray, but with the extra $$$ you could get it pained any color you want. The only wierd thing is why he would want to buy your bike on a trip, why doesn't he get one where he lives? If someone offered me 10k cash for my bike, they'd have it ^_^ Everything happens for a reason.

Lobo;
I know, it seemed odd - but these kinds of things seem to happen when I go riding. But if you would sell your bike if someone made you a good offer then consider selling him your bike. He will buy it - he says. The reason he is buying it on a trip is because he also just bought a new Toyota Tundra and he wants to put a bike in the back of it to carry when he leaves Houston to go home to Key West. I know, I know - kind of a different reason for buying a bike, but that is what he said. I don't think there are any BMW dealers down in the Keys so he wants to get it on his way home and he would prefer to buy from an individual rather than a dealership. When I kept balking at selling my bike, he finally said, "then do you know someone who will sell one, because this is the exact kind of bike I want."
So if you want to sell yours, find out the fair market price and let him know - maybe you can work something out. I may go test ride a KR and a RS before I decide for certain, but in the meantime - if anyone wants to sell, I have a buyer ...... so he says. I don't know this guy - he was a stranger - so I can't really vouch for him - but he seemed legit to me.

I'm quite a drive from y'all if he's leaving out of Huston. There's one
FOR SALE HERE locally that is almost the same bike as mine, about 6k less miles. You might make that suggestion to him before he goes on a road trip to Fort Worth. Wonder why he wants to buy from an individual rather than a dealership?? Where did the 10k figure come from? Was that his offer to you when you first met? Mines still being paid off so I don't know if that kinda deal would fly with him.

Okay - thanks. I sent him the link.
I suppose he doesn't want to deal with a dealership because of the price mark-up.

So are you saying that when he offered me an additional $10,000 to bring it to his buddy's house - he might have been trying to trick me? I probably should not have given him my phone number and address then, right?
Just kidding!
Mad1150 told me in the Great Rides section of the forum "you just got done kicking some Texas weather in the butt on 2 wheels!" Maybe my bike is a legend already and the guy wants to buy the legendary RR!!!
Actually, if I decide to sell, I will have him meet me at my bank and have the bank check the money.

GypsyRR...You would look great on a new K1200R..and there's some very good deals going on them also.
I'm sure you could ride it better than the girl in this BMW Respect vid..

Get freshly printed notes, straight off the photocopier!
As for the K1200R - I met two 'locals' recently, both on the K12R.
One said - Big mistake - Too much bike for him and can't use the power. Lovely bike, but regrets spending the money and now can't afford to change it. Plus - Resale prices seem to be bad compared to most other BMWs.
Other one said - It's ok - But could have done better with the R1200GS or R1200R. Bit of a handful in the mountains, but likes to burn off the jap stuff! Loves how the bike is still a novelty, even to other more traditional BMW riders!!
Go figure that one!
So I guess it's horses for courses. Just do a long ride first, and don't get overawed with the power.

If it sounds to good to be true...then it probably is!
Keep the bike and direct Mr. FL to CycleTrader.com.

sounds too wierd to me...but obviously wasn't there to hear the whole thing. Then again, might just be one of those good fortune moments. If it were me, I'd probably let it go, and go buy me a new leather riding jacket
