Differences between Rockster and Roadster

When we bought our 04 1150R it was for my wife. She has now quit riding it. We had Works Perf shorter shocks and a custom low saddle done for her. I want to restore it to stock, but I also want to start planning a little customizing ala Rockster for me. If I recall, the Rockster utilized the shocks from an S and consequently had a tad steeper steering and better suspenders. Other than the asym headlight and cosmetics, were there any other major differences?

Top gear is from the GS Adventure (ie same ratio), the Roadster has a longer top gear.

Wheels - Rockster came with 5.5" rear from the "S" not 5".

Rockster also has the front end of the 1100S, right?

yup - but he already said that. ;)

(includes wheel, sliders, telelever arm (I think) and shock length, but the shock itself is different because it doesn't have the preload adjust).

I didn't know that about the front-end, and thought they were the same bar the cosmetics (bars, lights, clocks, stickier OEM tyres, paint etc). Thanks!

Rockster - funky, ugly, weird, and bizarre

Roadster - posh, boring, geriatric, and un-noticable

Couple of alterations :
Rock front shock is NOT the same as R1100S (it's not got the preload adjuster above the chassis member).
Alternator on both models is dependant on accessories (ie heated grips or not).
Rock headlamp units are as GS, but in unique mounting brackets, casing and with unique "eyebrow" fairing. (and top yoke).
Rock available as standard with blacked engine.

Is it possible to replace the Beak with a Rockster fender?

I dont think so. The Rockster's R1100S forks are not the same as the roadster.

I think an RS or RT mudguard will fit though.

I don't believe this has been covered before, and if it is I missed it searching. Is it possible to swap out the T/S in a Roadster for the Self-Canceling on in the Rock??? What part is it? I like the self cancel feature but don't want to get a signal minder.

I believe it's something deep within the electronics.

The Rockster speedo is the one from the S and it's actually electronic (the feed is from a sensor in the final drive casing), I believe the R speedo is cable driven.

Because the turn cancelling system works over distance, it reads the outputs from the rear drive sensor to guage the distance travelled.

Where this is done I don't know though.

Yes it is distance but also time. Mine if you turn on your signal at a stop light it will go off long before the light changes. i have to keep reminding myself to make sure it is still on to indicate my turn.

are the turn signal flashers the same part number? A time based flasher would work for me. just so it shuts off if i'm not paying attention.

Well i am embarssed  I went outside to be sure what i thought was going on but it does not turn off while sitting still as I first thought. i must have been moving to point before I stopped.

Sorry but it operates just as everyone else has explained.

Self-cancelling signals

Yes, indicators will go on indicating if you are stationary, but it doesn't seem to be based on actual distance travelled-mine always does 17 flashes before self cancelling, whether you are doing 60km'hr or 160, and that obviously precludes distance alone-I posted once before that I thought it was RPM sensitive, needing certain RPM's before the self cancelling feature started, but holding revs in neutral doesn't seem to trigger it. Must be in gear? maybe absence of neutral, which is obviously readable by the eleectronics--I'll go out and experiment further.... :D
