Just got a R1150R

Post by MMH »

So, I just got the a 2002 R1150R w/ 30K miles & the following accessories:L

BMW sport screen
BMW locking cases
BMW tank bag
BMW tall seat
BMW pillion seat plate
Suburban peg lowering kit
Bar risers
heated grips
BMW GS handgaurds
Y pipe (eliminated the cat) w/ performance chip (dobeck performance TFI)
BMW K series fender

I paid $3250 for it and overall pretty happy. Bike rides nice. I'll be researching, and plan to pull the tranny & inspect the clutch splines in a couple of months, but if anyone can give me some quick things I should inspect right now, maintenance items I should do, etc., I would greatly appreciate it.

Congrats! Great price also! I'd put all new fluids in, unless the previous owner has records.

sounds like a nice bike, great price. If it has ABS, do a fluid flush. Well.. actually, do that either way.

read about valve adjustment, then throttle body sync...

and

antifreeze. I use genuine Iowa doe urine for mine.

I'd love to, but, I don't do photoshop. Is there any way to directly upload pics?

using a service like flickr or photobucket is the easiest way.

congrats on the purchase.

First job is to ensure that the cable ties around the headstock are removed.

there are many ways to post photos. Really, they just need to exist on a public server somewhere, so that you can provide a web link for us. 8)

I have a google+ backup folder I can link easily.

also a photobucket...rarely use that anymore, that site has become so slow....

even facebook. but if the linked parties arent your "friends" or the photos arent made "public" they wont see them.

If the bike still has the original plastic fuel quick disconnects, replace them with metal ones NOW.

Spend $100 when you remove the tranny and replace that tired old slave cylinder with a brand new magura unit. You'll thank me later.

something to think about.

Well, I will get a chance to look at the input spline earlier than I thought. The clutch just started slipping. Just noticed it in spirited acceleration when the engine would hit 3500 RPM or so. Started playing around w/ full throttle roll on in a higher gear & sure enough. Oh well... Time for a clutch replacement post.
