Looking for bike I spotted in Pasadena, CA
This morning going to work I stopped at a light beside a really cool R1200S conversion/bob. At least I think it was an S as it had angular mirrors and a small front fairing and black forks. The bike was a hexhead and it was totally bobbed rear of the solo seat, with an underseat brake light. There w...

Re: soft brake lever R1200R ABS
mine is soft and has a longer 'pull' the first time as well. sounds like the 'pump up' described. i have not seen the other thread tho.
don't like it but then again it's never caused me any real trouble.

i don't see how it can be from a gasoline additive when out of the box on day one they can be inaccurate and let you run out of gas with 4 ticks left.

Re: How to remove R1200R decals on tank
funny, i just did this on saturday. my right side was already mostly off from a few years in the california sun (i have no garage). a but of clay bar and it looks great. there is a slight ghosting since the black paint seems to have subtly faded under the clearcoat, but it's not bad. will post pics ...

Re: My car gets better MPG than my R1200R
but seriously, you have 1200cc of engine there, and two large pistons needing big combustion to move them. the only way to use less gas is to short shift and be easy on the throttle. the bike has the torque to do so. however that is really no way to ride a motorcycle, and will only save you a buck o...

Quick question on exhaust mount hardware
I recently changed my rear tire at home and only hand tightened the rear exhaust bracket hardware by the passenger footpeg (forgot to finish the job), resulting in that hardware falling off somewhere on the freeway. Luckily my muffler did not fall off and I noticed it shortly after. I have a ZTechni...

Re: exhaust
I have the zTechnik full system. Very nice. If you keep the db killer in it's pretty similar to stock (a tad more on top end), but with it out there is a small dip around 3K but more HP and torque everywhere else. here are links to dyno charts of both full and slip-on . full system saves 3.5lbs, sli...

Re: Ducati Monster vs R1200R
I have been considering the exact same thing since the EVO 1100 came out. I wouldn't so much consider the Monster a naked sport bike. There really aren't any more air cooled sportbikes. The Ducati Streetfighter is a naked sportbike. It's a serious machine. I see the Monster as quite moderate compare...

Re: Intercom systems
i used the sena last week on a trip. it was great. large control dial for glove, only 2 buttons so not too complex. occasional bluetooth connectivity issues with iphone, always fixed with a reboot of both systems but hard to do on the road. overall as this was my first experience with modern helmet ...

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
i dig the wire wheels but i think the tail section is screwed up on all of them. the naked R bikes have always had a grey piece with the little logo back there (as far as i can remember, maybe i have a bad memory). i really like that piece. too bad it's gone.

Re: Some tire talk - tire changers and tire wear
i use the HF tire changer. it's cheap and it does the trick. i did a lot of dirt tires on it first to get the hang of it and scratched a lot of rims. now i change both front and rear of my r12r on it without a problem. it is impossible not to scratch your rims with it if you don't use some sort of p...

Re: Can you ride on the highways with the sport shield?
i have a short los angeles commute and traffic is in the 70-85 mph range (with bursts to 100, don't judge me). i have no shield at all. i don't have a problem. however touring would be altogether different, wind adds to exhaustion particularly if there is any inclement weather involved. you will los...

Re: Air Hawk or similar
i have never needed one on my r12r but i have used them on other smaller enduro bikes when doing long haul days. helps out a brick-like seat immensely.
