Re: Better MPG
When I crossed the border into Oregon last summer I reset the mpg calculator and began to observe the posted speed limits. I gained about 5 mpg.

Re: Second bike ??
I had a Enfield/Indian back in the fifties. Remember it fondly and have lusted for another ever since the Indians brought them back having moved the shifter to the other side. I'd get one now were it not for the Virago the wife doesn't ride often enough. I've talked to a few owners who liked them ve...

Re: Hangin It Up
Bill, after my unplanned dismount in January I vowed never to ride again. While I was mending, the dealer was restoring my bike to showroom condition. I put it on consignment. Recovered, I got to thinking -- maybe a Spyder, then maybe a cruiser --Virago 1100 or Victory, then I got the hots for an F8...

Re: Strange behavior using portable Airman
I have a pigtail direct to the battery for the battery tender. I put an SAE connector on my air compressor for use with that pigtail. Recently, I got a Gerbing liner that, predictably, doesn't like the accessory connector either. I plan to change the SAE connector on the pigtail to match the Gerbing...

Re: Power Source
If it's only for a rider to passenger intercom, why not just use the bikes power outlet? Just get a 90 degree BMW type plug instead of the big ugly standard one. If you want more than that then consider a Centech (or comparable) fuse box with a relay.

Re: Why you should always wear protective gear & clean under
I added a couple of photos of the bike to the album, located here http://tinyurl.com/4me5zd8 . Clearly, the crash bars did their job. I probably could have ridden home -- if could have ridden. That said, I'm persuaded that the bars levered the wheels off the ground and facilitated my slide across th...

Re: Why you should always wear protective gear & clean under
Thanks all for the kind words. Sorry about the photos. I moved them to an album without thinking. They are here: [urlhttp://tinyurl.com/4me5zd8[/url]. And, yeah, lowside. You've heard of delayed apex? This was a too late apex. Once the crash bars hit the pavement it was a sled ride across the highwa...

Why you should always wear protective gear & clean underwear
On Jaurary 29, at the end of a long day on a familiar route with lots of sweepies and twisties, I suffer a brain phart then ask myself “what the hell am I doing on the outside of this left handed sweeper?” Then, oops, I’m sliding across SR76 on my SW Motech crash bars. The bike gets repairable cosme...

Re: Illium Highway Pegs and SW Motech Crash Bars
I bought the SWM bars and Illium pegs from Twisted Throttle. I like the bars. There has been some good discussion of them on this forum. I felt the pegs stuck out too far and took them off. I may change my mind later. As for lights, I talked to TW at the Long Beach show about theirs. It didn't seem ...

Re: Road Repairs
I carry a cheap, stripped down air compressor. replaced the plug with a fuse and SAE connector that hooks up to the battery tender pigtail. More tools might be nice in case someone came along who knew how to use them.

For Harry: The 9 volt battery would then plug into the accessory outlet? Does sound like a good idea.

Re: Best ride of the year so far
Good points lads, thanks. Another point is that my senior moments now seem to last all day. Usually, I don't worry much about gas since my tank capacity exceeds that of my bladder by about 100 miles. On the 1 1 1 1 ride the senior issues dominated. I'm about ready for 24K service so the display can ...

Best ride of the year so far
Ortega to Railroad Cnyn, Sage Road, lunch at Santa Ysabel. Clear, calm. Ok, 42 is chilly when your new Gergings don't work, but never mind. Here's the curious part: after lunch I noticed my average speed display indicated 2mph -- curious because we had gone about 150 miles in about four hours. When ...

I was very sorry to read this. I've come to appreciate your posts on this forum very much. I kept hoping I would run into you up at Hell's Kitchen sometime. I'm taking the liberty of forwarding the Trader link to our local club. Hope the sale turns out well for you.

I've had trouble with the clutch switch as well. The shop replaced it at the last service.

Re: SW-Motech crash guard installation notes
Nice write-up, thanks. And thanks for solving the mystery of the black plastic caps. Looking at the drawing again, I now see that the line leads to the open end of the tubing -- missed that when I installed mine. I'll try it the hard way. As for the torque specs, yeah,79 is way too much. A ratchetin...

Re: Bike laptop ?
I've been thinking about a netbook too, but it appears that a whole bunch of Ipad competitors are in the pipeline. I'd like to see a reasonably rugged Android device w/ wifi, 3g and a manageable keyboard/pad, and under $300. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that before long. FOR DON: Wh...

Re: SWMotech bars
I have them too, and am very pleased. Installation was no big deal, except for the small screws as noted above. That said, two questions: What are the plastic caps for? And, aren't the torque specs way to high? For 79 Nm I get 58 ft/lbs for example (or is my arithmetic wrong?). I just loktighted and...

Re: BMWMOA Redmund Rally
I'll be there. Short old guy, short hair, gold earring, dashing good looks one associates with the bridge of a destroyer. BTW, I'm staying at a place that doesn't appear on the BMWOA list. Recommended by a former Bend resident who is also staying there. I got a good rate, but it was some time ago. I...
