Re: Shifting problem
My technique that I learned from this board a number of years ago: 1) - preload 2) - quick and short clutch pull 3) - always above 4800rpm, usually I am above 5K. Works 100% of the time when I am not lazy. Lazy shifts (between 1st and 2nd) will fail almost 100% of the time. If you're shifting below ...

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
Here is the thread on the custom rear rack: (The Rack: A Winter Project) http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58003&highlight=weld+rack This is a great idea. I had a setup similar to a Pirates Lair made on a recent trip overseas, but haven't ride tested it yet. My next idea is an impr...

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
I remember a few years ago someone doing this on the Adventure Rider board to an 1150GS. He had detailed photos posted to the web, It was quite impressive. You should be able to find it if you search for "luggage rack". This is a great idea. I had a setup similar to a Pirates Lair made on ...

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
Please don't limit yourself to the R1150R. Myself and many K1200RS/GT owners have a desperate need for a backing plate for mounting mirrors on our fairings. Other than upgrading the suspension, its one of the best mods you can do on those bikes. Unfortunately, many of us cannot achieve it because we...

R bike vs K bikes
Gil, I have a 1985 K100, a 2003 K12RS and a 2003 R1150R. I do not do all the maintenance myself but I do pay for it all. To ride, I prefer the K bikes, to wrench, I prefer the R bikes. I don' think any of the modern bikes, R or K, have the problems you refer to. You will hear stories on many boards ...

barbacks off
I installed the moto techniques and rode with them for about a year. I then removed them and preferred the ride without. You need to try them for awhile to make the decsion though.

Solved. Found some brass nylon fuel line unions at NAPA. They worked out great. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gjbushman/1460447642/in/set-72157602201705664/ They are designed to fit in the inside diameter of 3/8 nylon fuel line (see pakaging), which I assume is an OD measurement. They fit into the 5/...

Of the new R1200's I have only ever ridden the RT. I do currently own a 2003 K1200RS and a 2003 R1150R. You've owned the K12 for 4 years, why are you unhappy with it? Not suited to your type of riding? I've also owned a R1150GS and I did not find it suited to my riding style. My only comment regardi...

5/16 connector
Thanks for pointing out that thread. Unfortunately the 5/16 connector is not available at my local Home Depot. 5/16 ID is not a popular size. Can't find any tubing that size either. I'll keep looking.

quick disonnect failure - need quick help
While replacing my battery one of my quick disconnects failed and I can no longer use it. I will order a suitable metal replacement disconnect but in the meantime I need a repair so I can get back on the bike. What am I looking for when putting in a straight piece with clamps? What is the hose diame...

mirrors
Anthony, Thanks for the measurements. I'll make a comparison with my K12 mirrors. I really would like some better rear viewing than the stock bar mounted K12RS mirrors. The fairing mounted mirror modification I have seen on other K12RS' is nice but very pricey. I know the mirrors you added are cheap...

ANNOYING LIGHTS
Great plan. I also find these lights terribly annoying. The black tape is quite attractive.hank wrote:iowabeakster, I put the black tape there because the abs lights keep flashing and the oil light stays on and they annoy me when I am driving especially at night.

Lots of guys and gals will wear bicyclists shorts. I have a few different kinds of microfiber shorts that I wear that help, my favorite being the underarmour. I also have some underarmour cold gear tights that I will wear when the temps get exceedingly cold. I can't imagine boxers would be too comfo...

Anthony,
I've considered these mirrors for my K12RS. Do they stick out further than the K12 mirrors that you had on your Roadster? How about the height, compared to the K12 mirrors? Thanks.

better on 1150R
These mirrors actually work better on the 1150R then on the K12RS. On the K12 you need to move your head and your arm to get a clear and complete rear view. The K12RS really needs fairing mounted mirrors. That's not a cheap mod on that bike.

Chris,
I did have this happen once. I was leaving a gas station and they slipped down. I stopped and tightened them up and have never had a problem again. This was a few weeks after removing my barbacks. I assumed I just never got them tight enough. No problems since.
