R1150R Roadster trivia

Post by mcooperstein »

OK. I'm feeling nostalgic here. Some of these questions go back to the 'early' days of the board, which also were the early days of our bike. So here goes...

1) What is the sound that our horns make?

2) What piece of machinery does the sound of our engine most closely resemble? (stock mufflers on of course...)

3) What cartoon characters ears are the mirrors on our bike compared to?

4) What single topic about our bikes has caused the most amount of flames/discussion?

5) Who the hell is Patrick?

Any others that some of you old timers remember?

1--- "MEeeeep"
2--- An airplane engine or a typewriter.
3-- Don't remember that one, but with the handguards on, it is exactly BullWinkle.
4--- Kill switch. I was one of the few Right minority against what is a very popular but irrational habit instituted by fearful liability lawyers. Held my ground even though as a dealer selling M/C batteries I could have benefited with the opposing view.
5--- He's someone I know well enough to say this board lost a chunk of it's entertainment value when he left. His wrenching, financial, dating and dietary advice, on the other hand, should be totally ignored.

About #4, if you want to keep using the kill switch to turn your bike off . . . . . . keep right on doing it. When it happens, remember this: You want (another?) PC-680.

1) - not sure what the 'old board' answer was
2) sewing machine
3) Mickey Mouse?
4) I think it's a three way tie between oil type/kill switch/ABS
5) Patrick is the bike-wh0re that lives in northern Cal. Who knows what he's currently riding?! The poor guy's always in debt, and always riding a different bike. I miss his posts.

I remember Patrick,, wish he would pop in once in a while.

Always thought our machines sounded like my Mom's old Singer (which is still in the family by the way!)

After I do a valve adjustment on my bike I make an audio recording of the engine idling. I then make a similar recording of the old Singer "idling". I display them both on my computer one superimposed on the other and compare the waveforms. Depending on where the peaks and valleys meet I can determine if I have the valves too tight or too loose and then make the appropriate "adjustments"! (like maybe have another beer) :D :D
