+1 for the Freedom Air. Nothing beats taking a break, such as getting off the bike when its stopped and walking around. :D

Re: motor guards?

I removed the BMW plastic valve covers after a couple seasons riding and found a black residue from the top edge of the cover stuck to my engines valve cover. The residue is resistant to nondestructive removal tools such as finger nails and plastic scrapers. These covers have been replaced by Hepco ...

Re: Motorcop style training - can our clutches take the beating?

I highly recommend taking the "police" training classes using someone else bike like the school's bike. Dropping and picking up a bike is good practice. This is all about handling a bike at slow speeds and not leaning the bike, you'll become accustom to steering lock to lock, managing the ...

Re: Do engine protection bars cause damage??

The author of the following article argue that crash bars are dangerous based on reviewing a number of crashes (older bikes).

Re: Do engine protection bars cause damage??

Based on personal experience the Kawasaki KZP protection system works very well. "The primary crash-protection feature is the chrome-plated crash bars at the front of the frame and surrounding the saddleboxes and rear fender." During advance riding class, we (everyone taking the classs) ei...

Re: Do engine protection bars cause damage??

Replacing the protection and cosmetic damaged parts, hundreds of dollars. Pick up the bike and ride it after a tip-over or crash, priceless.

Re: Got my insurance bill and I'm not happy. Alternatives?

I just switched to esurance and after a few years with GIECO. GIECO raised my rate by x2.5 this year due a report that appeared in the state/national insurance database. They had no liability or payout...no costs to them. Talking through it with them, you can make no claims with them but if they &qu...

Re: Newbie says hello and question about crash bars

I received and installed the Hepco crash-bar as a present. Previously, I had the BMW "plastic" head covers which I removed. Unfortunately, the plastic part left a black stripe across the head cover when removed that's doesn't come off with a "little elbow grease". Regarding the H...

I found the higher body position a bit uncomfortable at first. I don't even think about anymore, I enjoy my view of the world. You do have a new advantage being eyeball to eyeball with SUV drivers and seeing their vehicle.

Re: Hot weather riding gear

Based on my last year's crash, you really want the padding to be where its needed on the landing followed by something that will take the heat and abrasion from surface you are sliding or bouncing along. Good fit is a requirement. Looking good while walking away from a high speed crash is the dream,...

Re: Why the R1200R?

In the 70s, I tested a R90 (?) following a number of years of dirt bike riding. After that ride, I said to myself I'm going to get a bimmer someday. Looking back, I must of had that same grin when I got of it when years later I finally got my R. Simple, elegant, and all-around. Recently, the BMW dem...

Re: To all the windshield Guru

Something I do to counter "blowing off the bike feeling", is use my legs and stomach muscles to tilt my upper torso into the wind, e.g. lean into it, while keeping the back straight and relaxing the arms.
