Remus exhaust and panniers

Post by fly »

I have a Remus Powercone exhaust mounted and recently got the hard side cases to facilitate some touring. I have encountered a problem in that there is very minimal clearance between the muffler and the case (about 1/8" from both the top of the muffler and to the side). It is so little in fact that if the bags have any luggage in them the muffler touches the bottom of the case. I was wondering if anyone else has this muffler mounted along with side cases and if they have found a solution or if they have the same issue. I have tried loosening all the mounting points for the exhaust and adjusting slightly but still have the problem.

" have tried loosening all the mounting points for the exhaust and adjusting slightly "

That is exactly what I did and it worked.

Hmmm...how much clearance do you have around the pipe to the case once you have luggage loaded?

You would probably benefit by moving the endcan a bit inward(closer to the wheel) if possible. The bracket on the powercone is pretty big so you should probably be able to angle it slightly more inward. I have a BOS cf endcan and allthoug it is mounted at a steeper angle they solved the problem with the luggage by moving it closer to the wheel. Ussualy as long as it doesn't touch you will be ok and the heat of the can won't do a lot to your sidecase or the content. I had this problem ones with a Remus exhaust on a K100RS and there I just made a little dent in the case where the exhaust touched(used an electric paintstripper to soften the case) and after that it was fine even though the gap was very small. I don't know if this would work on the new cases as they seem to be made from entirely different plastic so before going this route check with someone who knows about plastics and they could probably tell you if it can be shaped by heating it up. Before messing about with the case though I would take it up with the dealer who delivered the endcan cause it should fit so maybe some parts are a bit out of line or just not ment for your bike(yhis does happen some times so check the partnumbers if possible).

Good luck and as always most of us would like a picture of the Remus sytem when it is fitted.

This is unrelated to your problem but I was wondering if the powercone is to loud at cruising speeds ? I'm in the market for one, but not if it's to loud.

The Remus is still very quiet and I don't notice it at all on the highway. Around town it is just more of a different tone than the factory pipe and not significantly louder.

I messed with it again last night and after taking the whole muffler and connector pipe off, loosening everything and repositioning I did manage to get it so I am happy with it. I have about 3/8" clearance now.

I managed less than an inch clearance. No problem so far.
I have the headers and can.
Love the sound and performance and will probably not change back; but the volume is on the loud side...

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I've put full header systems on other bikes in the past and was sorry I did. But I can always change back if I have to.

I have an 02 R1150R and installed a Remus CF can and Y pipe. The can does fit very close to the side case, (probably less than 1/4" clearance), and I was concerned about the heat, but have had absolutely no problem.
