Bib Overalls

I am looking for a source for the BMW bib overalls like they have in Germany. To go a step further , I would really like to come up with someone in Germany that will purchase for me the German/Austrian/Hungarian and so on-bibs that they wear on the job for construction work and similar. I have seen them but never got to the source. The ones the workers wear are much less expensive than the BMW version and come in some bright colors -unlike the denim versions that I wear for farm work, and other more casual activities. You European types out there-HELP ME OUT!

I have a pair of those overalls. I feel very official when I wear them while working on the bike.

I think that I got them from one of my local dealers(Holt BMW) but it was a while ago.

For DJ and others who may find me as style conscious-my wife and kids would have a real laugh!!! I spend my summer days wearing t-shirts & shorts that have "character" from farm activities such as saw milling and other farm and shop related activities.Most of my clothes bear the color of the several cars I build each year-BMW paint colors @ that. I usually don't wear underwear in the summer(if felling trees I do wear my bibs) as the shorts are setup just fine thank you. As a technical matter I'll say that you never should wear the Carhartt brand on a bike as the wind unbuckels the straps if your not wearing a jacket. As far as Iowa being the mother load of bibs- I'm not so sure about that-I find ebay to be "the source" these days-especially for the Key brand shown in the picture of the "pious biker" wearing that brand-which is hard to find in Kentucky, by the way, and expensive @ retail-they have always been my favorite work outfit dating back to years as a professional mechanic.
Back to the subject-we were visiting a son that was going to school in Budapest @ the time and I saw these guys-working men-wearing these bibs in very cool colors and thought what a neat pair of casual bibs they would make -so I have my son ask his professor(they spend every thursday together for the day over there from coffee to evening) where they buy them. He says they come from the "workers store" the name coming from the days of communisim sp?, and that you had to get them there in those times. Well, I never could find the workers store, thus the email. DJ, do they wear bibs down under-if you do you know that underwear goes with bibs as when the flaps are open it is a bit risque around the sides otherwise! I would like to rent a bike down there and go the route sometime-is it affordable to rent there?

I know just the kind of bibs that you are talking about.

MLW & have visited her family in Germany every 12-18 mos and every time I go I try to find the bibs that you are talking about in a store. Every time I find them they don't have my size (I'm 6'2", 255#). They are always willing to order them, but I usually don't have time. The only colors that I have seen them in are blue and forest green.

They look comfy and are different than what is typical here in the US. Everyone man in MLW's family that works in anything other than an office job wears them regularly.

Bibs are part of my native dress, being from Eastren Kentucky, along with a t-shirt,ball cap, and work boots. They are correct for all but the most formal of occasions.

I've not seen them down under...but I will be looking out for them now..

Do they have a flap at the back for doing number two's without taking them off..I've never really looked that close..

Here we don't call them bibs...We just call them overalls.

Guilty.... I've been wearing heavy duty Carharts and the cheaper indigo stuff; love 'em! Though still funky looking, I look better in them since losing 55 pounds from when this little video was taken.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're looking for, but I was hoping I would learn of some protective overalls made with bikers in mind. I've since taken to wearing wide suspenders (via Aerostich) with my Kevlar lined jeans and their over sized waists..... pretty comfortable. But when I put my Carharts on for the bike ride into work one day, I found them to be VERY comfortable!

I may be taking the Kevlar lining outa some of my jeans and having it sewn to the inside of some brand new Carharts. The double layer material at the knees could be utilized as pockets to hold some knee armor, and I would have pockets installed inside the Carharts at the hips for still more armor. I agree that the buckles can come undone, but a guy should be wearing a jacket over the top of the Carharts.... besides, I've lost a couple cigars en route outa the top pockets when traveling without a jacket.

Yeah, I was hoping that by "BMW Overalls", I would discover that BMW offered some overalls in that same material they make their 'jean' protective gear out of.

Overalls, they're not a fashion statement but they sure are comfortable and VERY functional!

How bad do you want them? They are sold by the thousands in every Walmart/big box store in Germany. They are just a cloth type cover pant, that streetworkers/laborers/construction/tradesman wear. I have a friend still in Germany who could get them in a minute and mail them. Just need your measurements.

To DJ-As a guy thats going on 65 in a couple of months I can tell you that when I was a child, I wore a coverall(common then) that had the back flap-I remember worrying about getting *hit on the flap! I have never seen any bibs that were bike specific as far as kevlar. I had a German exchange student (whos' Dad was also a BMW bike rider!) that was working on getting me some of the bibs thru Dad-the deal was hampered by her love life , as I only saw her in the library each day and that was where she "connected "with the guy, so as the school year wore on, we ran out of time. The BMW bibs are very pricey-certainly not what you want to grease up in, unless you live in a better neighborhood than do I! The German version is not very high. To those who might be of help, I am 215#,5'9",39 waist/no gut,and have 29" inseam(same DNA as the larger primates?) and usually buy bibs that are roomy- for comfort- in size 42x30 and can also wear 29". My "handle" kantuckid" comes from 30yrs in KS and 34yrs in KY so I do know how to dressup-it is not just an eastern KY thing with the bibs-my fathers generation and before kept the best pair for Sunday and special occasions such as farm field days,going to town for shopping and for a select stylish few they even wore them to funerals and the like, of course this was with a suit jacket-so much for off topic 1150 stuff!!!

Boris....those look right out of a S&M catalogue....if I'm caught with a pair of those here I will be stoned. That front flap is fairly large, or by any chance, are you wearing them backwards?
