Here's my 2 cents...

I agree that the easiest way to charge your battery is through the accessory plug. You will want to pick up a charger like, say, a Battery Tender. I got one from Auto Zone for about $60. I keep it hooked up to my bike via an accessory plug anytime It's in the garage. I bought the bike new in 2003 and it fires up every time, even in the middle of winter.

Now, if you decide you need to access your battery anyway, there is a way to do it without removing the tank. I don't remember the details well enough to describe it here but your owners manual should describe how to remove the necessary bolts and then pivot the tank up. This is what I do to change my air filter.

One last thing. If you do take off the tank and that wasn't enough of a challenge for you then go ahead and change the fuel filter (it's in the tank :x ). I believe it is supposed to be changed every 24,000 miles or so.

Just got home and got it charging. Thanks for all the great info..and the idea of a bash here sounds great to me!
