Having been a lurker here for a more than a few months I finally post my first message, but may I please first say what a wonderful board this is, with a wealth of information and a vibrant community.
So, after toying with the idea for more that a few years I can’t wait till next month when I finally get my mits on a 2004 Dakar Yellow 1150R Twin Spark with ABS. She looks absofragginglootly fuggingfantastic.
I plan on fitting a new Y pipe to get rid of the ugly cat, and fit a small screen to start with.

Well I got her, finally.
I sorted everything out to pick her up, insurance, day off work, train ticket and all that stuff, just to be told that the dealership was closed on a Wednesday…………...
So they offered to deliver it on the Thursday, result.
She arrived clean and tidy, minus hard luggage. That was still in the workshop being taken off for the service. A phone call sorted that.
Having done about 90 miles so far, all I can say is very, very nice.
She is not as torquey as the Sprint RS I had, but she pulls nicely. I just need to get used to the gearbox and she really needs a small screen.
I have ordered a screen and a Y-pipe for her and they should be her before the weekend.
Today I took off the cat, after checking this board of course.
Now although the clamp bolts were rusted, a bit of oil and a rubber mallet soon cured that and I even got the oxygen sensor out, 22mm spanner, and mine took 3 & 2/3 turns to fully out and I did not take off the tank.
I have tried doing this work on Jap bikes before and I have always been left with stripped threads, broken bolts and a lot of swearing going on in the vicinity. Not this time as everything is ok.

I am now off to the pub for a pint as tomorrow I am expecting the screen and it is prep and polishing day ready for the new pipe.
I will put some pics up tomorrow.

The new Y-piece arrived today; it weighed nothing compared to the cat.
Fitting was a piece of cake apart from the mounting bolts.

First I greased the new clamps and then fitted the O2 sensor (That bit in the middle sticking out), after rotating 3 & 2/3 times it screwed back in nicely. I tightened it as hard as I could and there is no way of getting to it when the pipe is in place.



The mounting bar is not threaded all the way and the original bolts had to be replaced with other Stainless items.



The silencer clamp was not so bad, but lining up the silencer on it mounting bolt was a sod.



I then carefully placed the O2 cable back in it clips





After I tightened everything I started her up, oh she does sound nice, a more deep throaty growl.

I am now just waiting for everything to cool, so I can then re-check all the clamps and then wipe the pipes down with a thinners soaked cloth to get rid of all the grease.

I can't wait for a spin in the morning.

The next job is fitting a touring screen
