Road Attack Fitment

Post by bluelight »

I had seen conflicting advice on the web regarding C,Z or plain versions
of this tire for our bikes. The Conti site spec is the Z version. So I contacted them

Hi,
the "z" front wheel is correct and we have in germany a homologation for
that tyre.

I asked him to double check this and got the same answer Z.

I called a few steelerships (the one on Long Island just got closed down) and they
dont seem to have a clue, but on further research seem to think its a 'C' in front.
I sent another email to BMW motorrad directly and await a reply. I know most of the
posts on this group go along with the C in front and plain in rear.
Thanks

Approved fitment is a European thing.

Any of the correct size Road Attacks will work safely on the Roadster. Neither weight nor speed are limiting factors. For the heavier and in some cases the faster bikes, a stiffer sidewall version is sold and results in various letter designators.

Personally, I avoid bias ply and I would not drop more than one speed rating when selecting tires, but the other factors just aren't worthy of my attention.

Thanks Mike for your thoughts. I have recieved my order
from SW Moto. Fast Service! The 'C' front is made in Korea, while the
plain back is German made. If the Z is from Germany, I will exchange it for that.
My front wheel has been down in Tenesee, at Frame Straight for the past 3
weeks getting a small bend fixed. No sign as to when they will get to it, so I have
time to diddle around about tires.

The road Attack tires are "Z" rated. The link is a tires site - I just bought and installed a set on my "R" from this place.

Hey Dnat;

You are killing me, you got my favorite color and favorite location. I was
in La Jolla a year ago and I thought to myself how cool would it be to have a bike
here! NY is killing me. I feel like a bear comming out of a cave.

When you say the tire is Z rated are you referring to the speed rating as in ZR 17,
or the Z version. Your link lists both a Z and C as 1150 fitments in the front. One is
wrong and motorrad sadly doesnt know. I just got a C tire made in Korea and
SW Moto tells me that the Z version is made in Germany. The plain Road Attack
rear is made in Germany also. If Bmw is putting these on new Bikes I think they
would want them to be German.

I have contacted Conti again to find out what really is the main difference between
C an Z and I will post it here. I think the Z version in front is the correct tire for the
1150 with the rear the plain one.
