New member says Howdy !

Post by USMCDad »

Been lurking since 2 years ago when I rode the 1200ST at North County (San Diego) BMW's open house http://www.bmwmcnc.com

Went to their open house last Sunday and rode the 1200R. Totally loved it!!! With much effort successfully resisted urge to pull out wallet and write check (three kids in college has something to do with it)!

Currently riding a 2001 Honda VFR. Wife wants a Corvette. I want a R1200R and a Corvette. Life's tough Ha ha.

Live in Rancho Bernardo, north San Diego County; 58 yrs young; been riding since I was 11 years old; refuse to grow up.

Home today as I just had a dental implant. Is this just the Vicodin talking Ha ha ?!?!?!?!?

Great bunch here - great board. ChiTown you're a stud and living our dream! Don you're a good engineer! Eisen you're lots of fun too (and I love your Dobie)! Thanks for all the fun everyone.

- Dad out.

Forgot to mention ... Chris "Teach" McNiel was at the open house doing his stunting on a F800ST. This guy is totally awesome!!! We loved his first show so much we stayed for the second one. Go see him if you get a chance - highly recommended.

Hi USMCDAD,

I think the R1200R is the best bike BMW makes for riders like me. I'm thrilled by the ergonomics, and the refinements to the ABS, transmission and the Boxer Twin. We are lucky to have so many great contributors to this forum. Good luck resisting the pull of the R bike! The test ride was all it took to get me to write the check!

Welcome to the boards (or to posting on them at least)! You obviously have way better wallet control than the rest of us who test rode a 1200R... It can't help to read endless posts about how much people love their R, with very, very few problems, and plenty of praise.

How about finding a nice used 1200R and a used corvette......?
There's at least one 1200R over in the Flea Market section, and I could sell you a nice low milage 06' BMW 325XiT, it drives much nicer than a Corvette, and can haul things... (it's never been offroad, I promise)

Hey, Dad,

Welcome! I am amazed that you were able to resist the blandishments of the R1200R after a test ride. Maybe you need to go again. Kids in college--good. Not having R1200R--bad. Get two, one for your wife. She'll be a convert, for sure!

Hey Dad,

Welcome from Down Under. That growing old thing is way over-rated - go with your inner child and go back for another test ride. As others have said, you have better self control than the rest of us to have resisted thus far. As for the 'vette, I can guarantee if you have them both in the driveway, you'll be waving at the the missus from the bike while wearing the mandatory stupid grin.

True.. I have an M3 convertible - that sits in the garage almost any day when the top could be put down 'cause I'm out on the bike. In the past year - the M3 has accumulated 5k miles, the R12R 12.5K miles. I look at the M3 as "just transportation" (you'd have to know the Columbo TV series to know where that reference came from..)
