Has anyone considered putting motocross type bars on their R1200Rs ? Or perhaps just the cross braces? Looks like it might be a good place to mount farkels.

Re: Bar Braces
I had that thought just last weekend while putting new bars on my DR 650. The other thing that would interest some folks is the various rises and bends available would/could eliminate bar risers/back bracketry.

I've thought about that also, the only thing that really concerned me was getting bars with the correct threading for bar end weights and/or throttlemeister... I don't know if what we have is any kind of industry standard, or BMW specific.
Be interesting to see what options we might have.

Re: Bar Braces
Joe is right to be concerned.. BMW bars are usually quite specific and unique. They aren't universal fit. Even GS bars won't fit on the Roadster since the center portion of GS bars is thicker than the section where the grips are.

I had that thought also, e-mailed the Throttlemeister folks and here is the responseChiTown wrote:I've thought about that also, the only thing that really concerned me was getting bars with the correct threading for bar end weights and/or throttlemeister... Hello,
As long as the bars are at least 16mm inside diameter we can fit something in them.

Hi, I have a Suzuki DR650 SE and want a throttle lock for it. The stock bars are junk and I am going to change them out. What type of dual sport replacement bar can I use that would allow the use of a Throttlemeister? Thanks
So it's doable but a little care in the selection of the bar would need to be excersied. I didn't check before buying the new bars for my DR but it's not the concern now. I bought a cramp buster/throttle rocker and it does just fine @$12.00 vs $120.00

Re: Bar Braces
I too wanted to mount some goodies on the bars and ended up getting a short (250 mm/9.75") Touratech bolt-on cross bar:

Here's pic mounted on my bike:

The bar itself was about 1/2" in diameter, too small for what I was mounting, so the black tube you see in the picture is a piece of washing machine rubber hose, sold in bulk at Orchard Supply Hardware. Works well and is cheap.
