I'll make you a deal.. when I can go more than 48 hours without logging in only to get the dreaded "exceeded bandwidth" alert, or when I can go more than 5 minutes w/o hitting the "back" arrow only to find I've "timed out", or when I only have to log in one time during a visit, then I'll be more than happy to make a contribution - no joke.

In the meantime, there's been a lot of chat about making contributions, and I can see by the colored names that many have, but frankly I don't see much of an improvement in service. I'm not blaming Doug, he's only doing what he can to make all of us happy.. but as a guy who spent a decent size bundle on Exelsior-Henderson stock a few years back (and we all know where that money went), I've become somewhat of a skeptic.. I'm more than willing to support a top-performing website, or a top-performing anything.. but in the time that I've been a member of this board, I've actually seen the performance decrease, not increase.

Show me better reliablility and peformance, and I'll be more than happy to show you da money...

I've been around here a little longer than you, and before the r1200r forum came around and grew like it has there were very few if any errors. That leads me to believe that OUR little forum with it's new member's signing up daily, is a major factor in taking Doug's system limits beyond their capabilities. With that said, I see it as being up to US to help Doug buy the needed bandwidth to keep this site going smoothly.
This is a non for profit site, and we can't expect doug to spend countless hours/days/years maintaining the site AND front the bill, signing contracts, committing to pay for the upgrades without having the income to pay for it. Would you rather he sold POP UP ads to support the site? I wouldn't.
Saying you'll donate AFTER the site is better is shallow, and outright rude. Considering you have things for sale to make a PROFIT FOR YOURESLF in the Flea-Market, and have benefitted greatly ALREADY from this site, you should be ashamed of these comments.
It's UP TO US as a group to help this site grow, not demand better performance before you'll cough up up measly $20, or god forbid $60 for a lifetime membership.

With all that said, if you want to be so arrogant to demand performance before $, then at least go buy some raffle ticket so you can sleep well at night knowing you spent your money on a "tangible" thing - a chance to win a bike, but with your " high performance" attitude, I'm sure that bike wouldn't be up to you high standards.

Considering ADV rider owns Smugmug, I'd say they have a pretty beefy server...

Maybe be this post of your would be better seen in a thread I started in the Members section....

And yes, funds has been an issue, thats way there's a raffle, and new color system, etc.... I'll look for the post.

There's a thread in members with some other things a brewin', go voice your opinions over there, where it can actually help.

I'm done in this thread, started by someone's who's opinion about this site doesn't matter as a non member. Like people who complain about politicians that don't vote...

Joe, who pissed in your Corn Flakes, mate?.. My comments above weren't intended to be a personal slap in the face - to you, or to Doug - I thought I made that clear in my initial post. Sorry you took it that way. I understand your defending Doug, but your comments above are somewhat shallow in their own right.

My intention wasn't to piss you, or anyone else off, but merely to state the obvious in what I see as an increasing problem with this particular board. In fact, if you'll go back to my original post above, you'll see a 'smiley face' at the end of my comments. That normally means that there's no intended harm in the poster's comments.

First, I do expect performance from internet chat groups for only one reason - because the entire basis for internet use is that it's FREE! (with the exception of most adult sites; however this ain't one of 'em, and I'm not paying anyone there, either). That's what makes it so attractive to everyone on the planet. I belong to a number of other m/c related boards, in fact I'm a moderator on an active Triumph Bonneville board, and I have yet to spend a dime on it, or any of the others that I frequent, and I've been using the net on a regular basis for over 11 years. There are other venues that this board could we moved to that would make it a lot more reliable, but since it's not my board (and no, I don't want it), I'll just continue to lurk this board as it's available. If I didn't ride a R1200R, or if I wasn't interested in R1200R rider's comments, you wouldn't see me hangin' around in here. Scan the Gold Wing or rice rocket boards and see if you find any posts from me.

I actually laughed out loud when I read that one.. I may be a lot of things, but shallow isn't one of 'em. "Rude"?.. perhaps, but only when I'm dealing with someone who's closed their mind. FWIW, I've also used Craigslist to sell a few items in the past, and I've never been asked to contribute to the site, - here's why - it's FREE! Just because I've attempted to sell (w/o any luck, so far) an item here doesn't justify my "joining" the forum (I don't recall selling anything here, pls help me out if that's not true). I see no reason to be ashamed of my comments above. I was merely stating an opinion, and an observation related to this venue. I don't pull the trigger when I hit the "Submit" button if I'm not sure of what I'm about to post - here or anywhere else.

Sorry, mate.. gotta disagree with that one.. mostly for the same reasons posted above. This isn't my forum; I'm a non-paying guest here. And, once again, I'll remind you that in my recent observations, the increase in the number paying members hasn't resulted in any perceivable improvement in the forum's performance. I don't buy performance parts for any of my bikes w/o first seeing what they'll do. When I see an improvement in the board's peformance, I'll be more than happy to provide a little financial support. Until then, I'm still lurking..

Brother, is it raining in the windy city?.. it must be.. You really oughta go out and throw a leg over the R-bike and go for a putt to clear the cobwebs. Your poking me in the eye saying that my comments were 'arrogant' shows that (for some reason) you're thin-skinned and unable to engage in conversations about viable topics that you don't personally agree with. NCGS I think what you perceive as an increase in donations is a change in the board, an upgrade. Different colored names is a new feature. Yes, the raffle for the XT225 Joe is talking about is generating some memberships but is hasn't been going on long enough to have made any changes to the board. Check out Doug's post in the Farkles thread and he explains it. The board came back online the the other evening because he upped the bandwidth. We used to have to wait until the fist of the month when the counter started over. So we're seeing improvements already. [Edit: This is a bit contradictory, guess this raffle is changing the board after all]

I got your joke, it was actually funny. Joe's got a busted foot and can't ride his bike. I think he misunderstood you, such is the nature of the chat board. You guys will work this out.

You and everyone else are certainly welcome to visit this board and make use of it with no requirement to contribute. What's going on right now is new and different for us. It's a fund raiser, extra attention is being called out for making donations and signing up for memberships. I doubt anyone wants this place to turn into a site where non paying members are constantly nagged about joining. It will not last long if we do. Bare with us.

I've no problem with guys who expect service for nothing - well, on the basis that someone else is paying someone else again for advertising, and the benefits rub off on you. HOWEVER, and in case you (aka free-riders) HADN'T noticed, this site was set up a different way - by guys who've given their time and money for no reward I can see. If you'd rather that this board had been set up a different way - well, that's a little late. It is what it is.

So - this is kinda how it is on this board: if you want in, and you expect service, best to contribute. If you're not paying, then perhaps you should be grateful for what you get for nothing. The guys who have put in time and effort - and (from the sound of it) some heartache - to this site welcome all of us, paying or not, on the basis that we add to discussion. That's a great attitude, and I must say I've enjoyed posts from non-payers too.

BUT to complain about what you get for free from guys who offer you their time, care and attention - for no reward - is a bit much. In Australia, we'd call you WHINGERS (win-jers). It's not a compliment. But rather than hurl epithets, I'd prefer you pull your heads in (more Aussie plainspeaking) and thank these guys for what you do get.

I am a paying member and have been one for a while but I have seen some of our naggers go from non paying posters to paying "holier than thou naggers" in a very short time. We need to be rehashing what kind of oil is best or tires or something , anything else.
