Opinions needed....water for gas?
So I was bumming around the net tonight and remember a news story from earlier in the week about how some guy converted his car to run on water...substantially increasing his MPGs.
So I googled the concept (used the phrase make my car run on water), and located a few sites. I was wondering if I could tap the expertise of folks on the board to find out if this is real
or BS
. Appreciate your thoughts.

Is this the way to extract hydrogen from water using electricity? I've seen a few videos, but I'm not sure it's ready for prime time. Apparently it's pretty easy to extract hydrogen from water, but at the present time it takes more energy to do it than what it returns.

The sites I located (http://www.water4gas.com & http://www.runyourcarwithwater.com great and creative names huh) indicate that you need a converter (that you make). Either site will sell you the instructions, along with the list of house hold items needed such as mason jars, baking soda, vacuum lines. The Water4gas site actually states they want you to pass on the knowledge to all your friends. Anyway the converter is attached to your battery and to the intake manifold. Once installed this generates HHO which is also called Brown's gas or Hydroxy. Both sites claim that using HHO as a supplement to gasoline will boost your fuel economy by least 40% or maybe even double it. They even have very official looking testimonials from happy customers. A couple happy customers are even offering up demos with their car for the skeptics...of course none of them live near me.
There appears to be no end to the media's frenzy on the gas situation.....Figure looking for someway to keep more coin in my pocket could not hurt. So is this stuff snake oil or is there truth to the claims

You could try baked beans for gas...well it works for me..

I considered baked beans, but encountered a few issues. First while it can generate great gas only relatively small amounts can be harvested for this application. Additionally the 'refining process' can be unpredictable with regards to timing and 'octane' levels. Timing is a major factor as the refining can occur in as little as 1-2 hours, but my take up to 8...clearly a more precise method is required. Also it is difficult to control the 'octane' level, as this can be effected by too many environmental factors, and is subject to corruption if the baked beans are consumed with other items such as broccoli or a variety of cheeses.
But seriously is water a suitable medium to boost your gas mileage?

My father was a US Navy pilot during WWII and Korea. He used to tell of water injection systems used on the large radial engines in the aircraft he flew. Helped performance under certain conditions and also had engine cooling benefits. I guess there are benefits and applications but takes someone with far more smarts than myself. Interesting concept though.

Uh...HHO = H2O, doesn't it? Water to improve gas mileage seems to be called snake oil around these parts...

I have seen that mentioned on the History Channel about those old engines.towerworker wrote:My father was a US Navy pilot during WWII and Korea. If you were a reasonably good student in Physics class, you'd know this is a scam. This electrolysis jar

will generate such small quantities of Oxygen and Hydrogen that it will be almost useless. Tiny bubbles once-in-a-while. If you subtract it's big electrical load on the alternator and cost of baking soda and xylene - - - it's just another voodoo energy device.
If it worked, it'd be on the World/National news every day for weeks.

That may be Rob, but big oil has bought up many patents that would save fuel. No one can change my mind on that.

Re: Opinions needed....water for gas?
I have a friend who is using a system in his 18wheeler right now. I am not sure of the exact numbers but he is seeing a gain in mpg and horsepower. He is currently in the process of manufacturing a system to sell for a reasonable price. Diesel engines only right now (18 wheeler and pickup size). He has been testing it for a few months now and ironing out all the issues.
I can get anyone his info if you would like. I am in the process of making his website to sell these systems but it is not up and running yet.

That thing wouldn't produce enough h2 and 02 in a week to power a weed-wacker for 5 minutes.

To each his own. They probably said the same thing about the light bulb, the telegraph, the model T, and the two wheeled motorized cycle.

"but big oil has bought up many patents that would save fuel". That being said again, if your buddy's invention works he can sell it for major $$$ to big oil. I hope it does work and we can screw big oil and the foreign asbites that have us by our neck"s.gannonfamly wrote:To each his own. If such technology existed, it could not be hidden. Or maybe it is in the same patent office as the alien autopsy report and the cancer cures that the AMA is hiding to protect doctor incomes

Re: Opinions needed....water for gas?
Quick.....conspiracy theorists unite!!!
If it were all that easy then oil would not be $135 a barrel, the American dollar would be stronger and I would be 50lbs lighter. I wonder if there is a secret patent or government scheme to fix that?
I mean after all the government is here to help and companies are not out to make a profit.
If we all stopped and used a little more common sense and a little more thought process imagine what would be possible.
But don’t let me stop you, I love the sarcasm.

The concept that your talking about differs slightly from what the Water for Gas or HHO injection. During WWII They would inject water into the cylinders of the engines along with the fuel/air mixture. This wouldn't ignite or increase the octane rating, but instead turn to steam. That is where the extra power they needed came from. Some people still do this on diesel engines, and I've even seen it on some gas engines.

Not to rain on anyone's parade...And I can't quote any references because it only mildly interested me at the time...but I was just reading, at some point this past week, a news blurb about the Chinese already using water to run their machines.
Those Chinese are very clever people and they might possibly be ahead of us on this.
I'm gonna do some more research.
Interesting article. http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_article.a ... ryid=68227
