My trusty number 5 or 6 Timex Ironman watch broke today. I usually get 2-3 years out of them and treat them like disposables. They change the styles every few years, but the buttonology and features usually stay the same and I don't have to "learn" a new watch. I think it is an Emerson saying that goes something like "foolish consistentcy is the hobgoblin of small minds." Anyway, I googled Timex and it turns out that they have my trusty old Ironman model with an iPod remote feature. I imagine for 99% of the population, this is a useless feature, but when I'm riding, I'm always having to open my jacket or tankbag and fool with my iPod. I considered getting an iPod remote, but unless you mount it on the bike somewhere, you have to dig it out of a pocket as well (not much gained). Granted, my jacket cuff & or glove will probably cover up my watch (I may have to place it low on my wrist so I can flip the glove up). However, it is likely much easier than my current configuration. On the downside, it only has FWD, REV, Vol, Play and Pause controls. You can't scroll through your playlist, etc., which is probably a good thing. It does seem that every time I get my headphones in and my helmet on, someone somewhere wants to talk to me. Now, all I have to do is hit pause on my watch, without digging out my iPod. It also allows me to skip a song on my playlist that I'm not feeling at the time. Best of all, you can pick this watch up for about $80. I'm just passing this along for others that might find this gadget useful. You can link to the Timex site at the following: http://www.timex.com/gp/browse.html/ref ... XB33AHYRMX
Maybe someday when I'mnot so cheap, I'll buy the whole bluetooth intercom comm package. Until then, I'll ignore the cell phone calls, etc. and just listen to music.
