Brief brake outage - no error codes R1150RA

For about 2 minutes, my brakes reverted to "no servo" "no ABS" mode, same as if ignition was off. Then brakes resumed normal operation.
During those 2 minutes, no brake alerts were lit. And subsequently I had the bike checked out on a diagnostic computer, and no error fault codes were found.

Bike history: I've owned the bike (2002 R 1150 R ABS, 39000 miles) 5 months. About 6 weeks ago I had to replace the ABS pressure modulator, but aside from that expensive repair, all systems have been functioning fine. I've put on over 6000 miles during these past 5 months.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Any suggestions on next steps?

Are you referring to the entire iABS unit? If so, may I ask what that cost you?

I had something similar happen once after a stall and difficult restart. No ABS function at all. Had to ride the bike home with no servo, really hard to brake without the servo. I put it on the charger when I got home and never had a reoccurance of the problem. Sometimes low voltage will cause one of these random failures, there have been others who have experienced this, could be that's what you've had. Ir you have the original battery in that `02, change it out. Mine started to fail after about four years and ended up causing some corrosion damage. You don't want that.

the problem was diagnosed and attributed to a handguard placing pressure on the brake lever during ignition - this overrides the ABS / servo system into "off" - one the handguard moved away from the lever, the ABS / servo systems came online!

Good news - glad you solved the problem.

iowabeakster did some great experimentation with the iABS and both front and rear brake switches. Your experience is a good supplement to that info.

Today, I turned on my bike with the front lever squeezed. My general warning light was on for a few seconds, (it always does this at turning the key on) then turned off after 3 seconds. The ABS warning light flashed like a madman (4hz) until the lever was released. After release, it passed it's startup self-diagnosis and was operating normal.

The handguard problem should provide you with warning via the flashing ABS light!

I have a few questions, but let's start with this one.

Did the lack of servo happen while riding (after successful self-diagnosis and riding away), or immediately upon turning the bike on?
