Fall Break Ride to Kentucky
After finding my battery dead on the Roadster Monday morning, I switched to the F650 and was only a half hour late for my rendezvous with JB44 up in Cleveland, TN.
We had a great time for three days riding and two nights of camping up in Kentucky/Tennessee land. I tell you, we'd be hard pressed to find a better location for a Bash than central/eastern Kentucky.
Here's the slideshow.

Re: Fall Break Ride to Kentucky
Cool slide show, can you fill us in on how to do that.
I'd like to elevate the quality of my ride reports to the quality of this one.

Now that looked like fun...especially the bourbon! Thanks for posting the slideshow, it was great to watch.
Didn't seem like there were too many other people on the road? (which is very appealing for me as my 'regular' driving area is in and around Boston traffic)

Hey Phil,
I was able to download the slideshow over dialup by leaving my computer on overnight.
Another masterpiece. I'm glad you were fast enough to get a photo of Abe... I missed him.
Those roads of central Kentucky and Tennessee surely merit additional exploration.

JB,
I think I'm going to put all the slideshows done so far on a DVD disk so you can see them without the download hassle. PM me a snail mail address and when I get it done I'll send you a copy.

Phil,
Sent you the address. That will be some great entertainment for us here in the mountains. We only get 2 TV stations, and there's not much on worth watching.
Many thanks.

Very nice.
Looked like you had a good time and some pleasant weather!
I hope you sampled some of that distillate, too!

Nice Phil. Did those clouds ever dump rain on you? You guys sure did get to do a lot of sight seeing as well as riding! What was that white building toward the beginning of the video? The one with all the windows?
I liked the old house in your photos, and the one covered in vines, and of course the barn(s). It does look like a nice place for a r1150r.net gathering, and not too congested either. I'm in. I need to travel more anyway.

I commented to Boxer along the way that someone could make a barn encyclopedia with all the barns we saw. I had no idea of the amount of farmland in Kentucky.GypsyRR wrote:...I liked the old house in your photos, and the one covered in vines, and of course the barn(s). ...

Re: Fall Break Ride to Kentucky
JB, I have to confess, I have not mailed your package yet. I'm sorry, but the gas crisis made me real jittery about even going the extra few miles to the P.O. the next day. Then other things had to be attended to. I got 3 gallons siphoned from my truck into the little bike, after filling up at midnight Sunday, so I have been riding the bike to work this week. On Tuesday I had to ride down to the BMW dealer and pick up those two pivot pins for my Roadster's FD, then deliver them out to Rob's house, then continue the 120 mile loop back home by 8:15 Tuesday evening. Then by yesterday I had just forgotten about the package. I'll stop by there today after school and mail it.
Kristi, those white buildings with the little windows are the 7 floor warehouses for bourbon barrel storage. We went on a tour of one and some of the barrells have been in there since 1935. They are wall-to-wall and seven stories deep with big barrells of bourbon aging. Only walking room at the edges inside. When they get ready to bottle some, they roll out the barrells to the plant and add spring water then put it in the fancy bottles. Quite a process and the whole area smells of that sweet sour mash odor. You can get drunk just standing around!
And the barns! We saw so many barns and just were enjoying the ride too much to stop very often. There was one road of about 15 miles that I could have just ridden back and forth all day, stopping to take pictures and generally enjoying the scenery. I'll go back to my map and post some of the better roads later on. I also regret not stopping up north to take some pics of the big horse stables and fields of grass around Louisville. The horses up there are better off than I am! Of course they cost millions of dollars and I don't cost a cent.
