Zip ties/Broken wire

When putting the bike away for the winter I always give it a quick look over, and I wanted to check some more of those zip wire ties (after reading the lasted post on "Engine Failure" by Jeff2008). In the past I thought I had loosened them all, but looking the bike over I see this,, A severed green wire, looks like the result of a tight "zip tie" As far as I know the bike was running great, everything working well, (unless it broke when I parked it, very doubtful) Anyone have any Idea just what this wire is for? And how to fix it, Thanks, Den

Have you had this bike since new?
If not, it looks like a hasty removal of a previous farkle by the careless former owner.

The green wire is normally is "key on" power. That may have gone to the low power pilot light inside the headlite or a previous owner's horn.

CycleRob, Thanks for the reply, yes I have had the MC since new, I agree it does look kind of odd, in looking at the zip tie, I cannot seem to find the other end of the broken wire, (although it is in a hard place to get to) Thanks again, Den

Turn the key fully CCW to the "Park" position, where the red rear parking light also is on, and see if the white front pilot light inside the headlite works. I can wait until tomorrow for the answer . . . .

Possibly power to the back up lights when you put it in reverse?

Do your warning lamps work (neutral, oil pressure, etc)?

Do the heated grips work?

Will the bike start if it's in gear and you have the clutch all the way pulled in?

Failure of one of the above would result from a broken green-with-black wire. Are you sure the wire is completely severed and not just partially broken?

I would like to thank everyone, I have checked just about everything, I have no idea how long this wire has been severed, and everything seems to work fine, One option I do not use on the "R" are the Heated Grips, (I don't know why, just do not use them) could this be related to them?? Thanks Den

The grip heat wires are brown and black on my `03.

Thanks Airman, it was just a thought, I will figure it out (hopefully) There is something not working that I do not know, Thanks Den

Just a thought, but hook-up a multi-meter to the wire and the other end to ground, turn on the ignition. If no reading, then try different switched until there's a reading and that would be the circuit it's for. If it does show voltage with the ignition on, you might try pulling fuses to isolate the correct circuit.
