Hello all. I am a brand new member from the Detroit area. I finally sold my sportster and bought a a "like new" 2003 R1150R (2300 miles). I love it! I can't believe the difference.

Welcome! I've had mine for about 3 years now and every time I check out the other bikes, nothing moves me like this one! Around here I've seen harley guys pull up to mine in a parking lot and just stare for a good 30 seconds; people at traffic lights yell at me that they love the bike with regularity. Its just a good old swiss army knife (german army knife?) of cycles. Doing your own maint/repair is a cinch thanks to this site and the design (by and large). You need to post pics MCR

Welcome, I also own a 2003 and like it very much. I have not had it very long but enjoy it more each time I take it out. I have never owned a Sportster and would only own a Nightster if I did. I was wondering if you could compare your Sportster to your R1150R. I have never run across someone who owned both.

Switching from the 1999 Sportster to the R1150R is like going from an old pick-up truck to a new Lincoln. Don't get me wrong, I think HD makes a great motorcycle (I wouldn't mind a new Street Glide some day) , but the BMW is an unbelievable upgrade for me and I always look forward to riding my bike . We have alot of pot holes in Michigan, and on the sporty , I would have to hold on for dear life when I rode over them. I think I will now always have a BMW as one of my bikes. I went to a recent open house at my local BMW dealership , and the riders were all so helpful and friendly to me. No one had any bad ass attitudes like some of the HD riders I have encountered. The info on this site is unbelievable and I will post a few pics this weekend.
