UPDATES ARE DONE - please let me know if you see weird stuff

Post by Doug »

[update: the upgrades are done. DNS propogation took longer than expected, but it appears ok now. Thanks for everyone's patience.]

It has been a long-time coming, but the site is receiving a major update tonight. We are migrating to a newer, more modern server.

Benefits include:
-Faster page access
-Less down time and sluggish days
-Room for future expandability
-New Server technology to monitor performance

Bad parts:
-Sorry about the short notice, but there was an upgrade window tonight, and I wanted to take it.
-Site will be down from 8pm tonight EST to tomorrow at 12pm. Please grab those PMs and info you need now. The site will not be accessible. It is possible it will be up before 12pm, but we want to be conservative
-Possible growing pains as a couple bugs may appear. Please email me an new issues that have arisen as a result of the migration.

Thanks for everybody's patience and support while we make things better!

Doug, thanks a lot for performing the thankless task of maintaining this forum. It bothers me that you seem to be running it partly out of your own pocket. It's too bad that more people don't join, considering what everybody including non-members get out of it. Although I am a lifer, I am going to "renew" anyway, 'cause it's just not fair.

It may. I havent read the update closely. I know that many do not have issues with it, only a small few. Some have fixed this by clearing cookies and cache info in their browsers, and there is delete board cookies at the bottom of each forum page.

Please give that a try. For all of the great features of phpbb, perhaps this is one place for improvement. I stay on top of updates as they are released, so rest assured that if there is a fix, we'll have it. If Iread the notes and see a mention of this ill get back to ya.

I am still having the Mark Forums Read problem. It is unique to this forum, F650.com is also a phpbb forum and have never had the problem there. It is not computer or OS specific as I have it on all computers I have tried with 5 OSs, including two clean installs.

railbender, does it work if you select mark topics read when inside a forum?

What link are you choosing? the one at the VERY top right (near where it say snew posts) or the one inside phpbb?

After you click the link, does it say the forums or topics are read, or does it just say information then goes to the forums page? It is supposed to say "All forums have been marked read."

I just noticed something. I clicked on mark topics read inside a forum. then when I tried mark forums read, it worked! Give that a try.

The Mark Topics Read function for each forum works. It then says "Topics for this forum have now been marked read - Return to the forum last visited".

The Mark Forums Read function in the top right of the forum index page is what is not working. When selected it just says "Return to the previous page".

We discussed it in depth here; http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17504

I tried all that, still broken for me.

It works individually in the forums, but the blanket mark fails.

Replying to a topic or starting a new thread gives a choice at the end "Notify me when a reply is posted". This feature does apparently not work since the update, at least for me, as I do not get any notifications. Is there something I can do on the client side to is this a server issue?

Cleared all cookies. I still don't get notifications for replies to threads or when a new pm arrives. Both events have occurred since I cleared the cookies.
