Having wired my GPS into the "spare" socket under the tank (based on advice from this forum) I now want to hard-wire my Autocom unit, which I have mounted under the seat.
My first attemptwas to wire it direct to the battery (soldered the wires to 2 connectors and put a water-proof fuse on the live close to the battery). Problem is that I ended up with a flat battery because the Autocom unit still drains a small amount of charge even when not in use.
The dealer advised me to use their approach which is to wire it into the back of the 12v aux socket.
Apparently , when the ignition is switched off it does not recognise the minor amount of power drain from the autocom and closes the aux socket completely , hence saving the battery. However with the ignition on and the Autocom activated (from inserting the riders headset lead) the system switches on .
I have a brown wire and a red/green wire going into the back of the 12v aux socket. Which is the live and what is the best way to attach the 2 wires from the autocom? Needs to be waterproof.
Or is there a better solution to get power to the Autocom unit?

Big hint on BMWs - Brown wires are ALWAYS ground.

Cheers Don.
Have since spoken to Autocom. They suggest tap into red/green (live) and seal with self amalgamating tape then take the earth to the battery terminal.
Sorted.

Yes thats the way I have fitted mine. Note: if you use a battery charger via the 12 volt socket you will find that it wont work with the autocom wired in . So I have fitted a removeable 3 amp fuse (halfords) which I put in line on the red autocom live cable. Remove the fuse when trickle charging the battery. (it acts as a crude swith)
