Mostly correct. Works Performance will take your ESA shocks and transfer the ESA controller to their shocks. Hyperpro is working on a similar design, but dunno when it will be done.

I put Wilbers on in the spring, no regrets.
Big $ but the guy in California that I got them from (Ted @ Ted's Beemershop) was first rate.

I noticed the best improvement on some washboard 2-lane in the Catskills. More of the same in central PA in the rain a week ago. You'll definitely be glad you got new shocks, probably no matter which brand except OEM.

Now that I have them, I doubt that I'd stick w/ factory shocks again.

Finally gave in and ordered a pair of Wilbers. Still need, and investigating a hugger, probably going CF.

Wilbers model 630 front
Wilber model 642 or 643 rear w/ piggyback reservior, and hydraulic preload.

any updates on this ? will it be retro-fittable on shocks bought before they find a way to do it ?

Has anyone replaced the OEM shocks with after market products on their R1200R factory lowered suspension bike? What was the result?

Hi - new here?

I don't know of anyone who changed shocks on a factory low suspension bike - but they are no different from the "normal" height bikes - they are made low by putting shorter shocks on them from the factory.

If you manage to get the right shocks, you can likely make a considerable improvement over the factory lowered version - and keep the lowering. Hyperpro in the US (Klaus) can make up low shocks for the bike that keep the travel distance of the normal height shocks. BMW didn't do this with the shorter shocks they used - if you have lowered suspension from BMW - you have lost the amount of the lowering from the factory travel specifications.

I have Hyperpro lowered suspension on my bike - and I like it.

Yes ,I am fairly new to BMW, 13,600 miles in 3 months since I purchased my R1200R however not new to motorcycling. 300,000 miles now on my 18th bike since 1965. The R1200R is by far the best bike I have owned. See my recent post about my 5029 mile cross country ride 2 weeks ago. The only thing I don't like are the shocks-a harsh ride. I have spoken with Hyperpro and they are working on the idea of making shocks for me to accomadate my factory lower suspension-hope it helps.

If you're talking to Klaus - just tell him to make another set like I have

They work fine, and are actually a tiny bit shorter than the factory low-shock. Good to see you're using the bike.. I've managed 32,000+ in a bit more than 2 years - with winters thrown in for good measure. Never went that far that quickly on any other bike I've owned.

Is there one specific part number for Ohlins that fit the R1200R?
Do you have this info?

Don good information!Just wrong on one account.Ohlins are made in Sweden,not in Holland...
But for shocks you can't go wrong with either one.
Ohlins makes good stuff.I would order from EMA or Kyle Racing.You get a discount and they are set up for you by Ohlinsusa and as "custom made" for your weight and riding style like Wilbers or Hyperpro advertises.
Wilbers are made in Germany by Benny Wilbers who was the old White-Power importer who are also good shocks and made in Holland.
Hyperpro is also a dutch spinn-off of White-Power and uses progressive springs.
Progressive springs get harder the more they compress,that's why they are mostly used on dirt bikes.A good idea on shorter suspension travel like on lowered bikes,I don't know if I would like it on regular suspension traveled bikes...
But they are all good!I would decide on price and service which is important come time to rebuild them...

Have you tried some of the other companies?
Like Wilbers or even Works Performance (not to be confused with WP)?
There still might be hope for you.
