Scammer on Oodle..

Post by deilenberger »

So - can you believe an '07 with 11k for $4,300? I couldn't.

http://www.oodle.com/view/2007-bmw-r-se ... 44930/usa/

So of course I wrote to him asking where it could be seen, and got back the usual sort of scammer email:

Hello,

I'm asking USD 4,300 for it, NOT negotiable. The price is good. The bike was bought from Los Angeles. The reason i'm selling it is because i can't register it here. All documents are available in US. We have moved in Italy with work and i can't come to sell it in US because it would be too expensive. I rode this motorcycle here just one time. The rest of time it was in my garrage. Well maintained. Clean title, very excellent condition. I wanna sell this and buy from here one already registered.

The only way to sell my bike is the shipping. It is a problem with time. The bike will be shipped with all documents in 7 days. It will be 3 days for mechanical inspection. Afterwards the company will transfer your name to the title and the transaction will be finished. If you have any questions write me back. If you like the bike and you accept the shipping write me back with your full name, address and a phone number also. In this manner i will request a reservation for shipping.

Keep in touch.

So - to keep him occupied - I'll "keep in touch".. perhaps some of you with some spare time, and a throwaway Gmail email account might like to also.. :)

BTW - I know I've seen that discription and photos someplace.. anyone know where (and I've reported it as a scam..)

if you like playing with these people, then you might enjoy the following program that tells the story of a group of americans that toys with their internet scam artist.

it is called: act one, hanging in chad.

the program can be found at:

enjoy.

it seemed like a good idea at the time

I knew I saw it. He sent bigger photos, so I'm guessing he got them from the ebay seller. The really distinctive thing on it was a chip in the plastic headlight support on the left side. Meanwhile I'm dickering with him over shipping :) He claims he's in France, and the bike is also (right!).. I'll soon ask if my French friend Anton can come look at it for me and hear the excuse why he can't (they usually claim it's packed up for shipping - which means I'll ask then how he took the "bigger pictures" for me.)

At one point - being bored at work - I concocted an entire cast of characters - a very strange family, headed by a fictitious minister, with a wild daughter and a murdering son. They each had voice mail (free on-line), they each had a Gmail account, and they were all talking behind each other's backs with the scammers. It was quite a bit of fun actually. Even had the Reverend fictiously try to fly to Nigeria with the money in a money belt around his waist - only to be stopped at the airport in the neighboring country. Meanwhile the scammers were waiting for him at the Nigerian airport. :) Ah well - not R12R related - so I'll de-digress.

I see Oodle removed the listing, so I guess someone there does read the scam reports when you send them. Be interesting to hear his response to my latest Email.. :)
