Electrical Upgrade

Post by dbuffington »

Just a minor FYI...

Two weekends ago, I made a series of electrical upgrades to my 2000 R1100R:
- Odyssey battery
- Eastern Beaver headlight relay harness
- Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulb

I know, I know, when you change more than one variable at a time, it's hard to tell what's affecting what, but since while I had the tank up, it was convenient to do everything.

The result...

I've gone from being seriously frightened to ride at night to finding excuses to ride at night. The illumination is that much better.

Also, cold start ABS warnings have disappeared, and most -- but not all -- of the funky behavior on warmup has disappeared.

Now, if it could only help me grow hair :D

Enjoy!

I have had the Odyssey battery for years in my '98 R. I, too, installed the Eastern Beaver relays for my headlight.
I hope you have better luck with your Sylvania Silverstar bulb than I and many others have had. Mine lasted last than 3K miles. That is apparently the reputation they have.
I bought a H4 bulb off e-Bay for $5.00 with a 100W high beam. That really lights up the road! I also intend to install some auxiliary lights this winter. The 100W high beam is not street-legal, but if you remember to dim your light whenever you have on-coming traffic, you should not have any problem. I have not had any wiring overheating issues to date.
