Some Other Farkles

Post by AncientMariner »

While I continue to research the best way to curb my rogue illumination issues, here are some minor Farkles I've been pursuing along the way:

The naked oil heat exchanger really bothers me. Fortunately my friend Bill gave me a leftover piece of a screen he used on his R1200 R. I believe he bought the original piece at Ace Hardware. I'm particulaly pleased at having been able to raise the screen up from the opening using simple hand tools. This view is from the top of the cowl:

Next up, I drilled my panniers and added a 3/16" x 2" stainless steel clevis pin and whisker pin to prevent unintended acceleration of my panniers in a direction not consistent with the planned intended movement of the rest of the formation that forms my bike. My friend Ray helped make a jig out of 5/16" bar stock to guide the drill:

Finally, I added a 19 Liter Shiloh bag from RKA. The front straps attach to the carbon filter bracket (and you guys said that was not needed). I have had an RKA tank bag on my K75 since 1996 and I have been totally pleased with it. The new one has some very thoughtful additional features. In particular, I like the tall section at the back which conveniently holds my Nikon DSLR in a readily available location:

Once I get my illumination issues resolved, I will share those solutions and in the meantime try and get a few good pictures of the whole bike.

I think my "grille" is a tad simpler.. but it seems to work. I've been thinking of painting a black stripe down the center of it so I'd have kidney-grilles on all my vehicles.
