Hello!

Post by bdarling »

Good morning! I have been lurking on this board for a couple weeks and I have found a lot of good input here, so I decided it was time to step out of anonymity and introduce myself. My name is Blake and I live in San Diego. I have been riding for two years and I am getting ready to buy my first BMW. I am about a week away from picking up a '95 R1100R and I would like to know if any of you have any recommendations for aftermarket and OEM parts suppliers in the US. I have been researching BMWs for the last year and I was originally going down the GS path, but I fell in love with the 1100R after a test ride a couple weeks ago and it threw my whole approach off. It seems to me that the R1100R is the black sheep of the BMW stable because I can't seem to find much aftermarket support for this bike. I am primarily interested in hand guards and basic replacement parts (clutch cable, throttle cable, etc.). I am aware of the Beemer Boneyard and the various off-road oriented aftermarket suppliers, but I'm really looking for the Summit Racing/JC Whitney of the BMW world. Any suggestions?

Hello Blake,

I am the odd German lurking around here ... The R1100R is an excellent bike and almost indestructible. However the "older" model of this bike (pre-1997) was more prone to gearbox failure than the later model.

The 1995 R1100R is 15 years old and most of the aftermarket parts were made by German companies like Wuedo, Wunderlich and alike. Beemerboneyard is not an aftermarket dealer but an excellent source for used parts.

So the address of choice would be for example http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/mm5/me ... ode=R1100R

or http://wuedousa.com/

If you do not find what you are looking for I suggest you check a search-engine of your choice for the keywords "parts R1100R" and you will receive enough links for plenty of evening reading sessions.

Good luck and best regards
Oliver

Thanks for the help Oliver. I stumbled across Wudo and gave their site a shot for about 15 minutes. It's interesting how you can recognize little bits of English in German, but not quite enough to navigate exactly where you want to go. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I enjoy the challenge of keeping a troubled machine running. Most of the 1100R's I've come across have been very well maintained and the gearboxes don't exhibit signs of popping out of 2nd or 3rd. Either way, it's good to know what to look for.
