Metzeler Z4 vs Z6

Post by Red1150R »

My dealer just replaced my rear tire with the Z6, my front tire is still the Z4, they made no mention or suggestion of replacing the front Z4 to match the new Z6 on the rear. Tread patterns between the Z4 & Z6 are different. Bike seems to handle fine on dry roads. I haven't been in the rain yet with this mixed combination. Does anyone have any experience with running different tires F & R? I don't do track days, just spirited open backroads. Any input would be appreciated. :?

The Metzeler Z4 has been discontinued and replaced by the Z6 Roadtec. I don't think you should have any problem mixing the two. What kind of shape is the Z4 front tire in?

Z4 still has about 20-25% left.

Usually you get a bit of a discount if you buy tires from shops in pairs (i do out here at least), and with that little tread left, i would think it would be best to just change them both? But then, I change both tires every time, and I hate mis-matching tires. I also never have tires wear noticeably different from front and back.

In short, you shouldn't have any issues, but you'll be replacing your front tire soon anyway, might as well change them both at the same time. my .02
