OK... so I'm trying to figure out which windshield to order and am having a hard time figuring out which is which, since the pictures don't seem to be the same.
Here's what I want:
taller of the two
upward "scoop" at the top
4 'curly-cue' mounts (standard BMW mounts)
Here are the part numbers I'm dealing with:
"Speedster" 71-60-7-666-294
and
"Touring" 82-00-0-419-379
The catalog pictures are identical, so I'm not sure which is which. I've seen conflicting pictures on the web. If you have pictures of either on your bike, would you mind posting them so I can see it?
The BMW touring shield actually is quite good. I bought the Sport shield for a trial one summer and found it gave poor protection from turbulance, rain, etc, and I got tired fighting the airflow. I bought a Cee Bailys Euro cut 21.5" tinted touring shield. It is a bit better than the BMW touring shield, less noise and turbulance for example. I saw a little adjustable wing made by Wunderlich down at the BMW dealer that looked pretty interesting. I suspect something like that is what a guy needs to really get control of the airflow over the windshield.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.
Thanks, guys! snelson200 - I am starting from scratch, and checked out the Parabellum. It looks good. I've got a tiny little sport screen on the bike now that attaches to the handlebars. I want one that attaches to the forks or something. The Parabellum looks like it will fit the bill nicely.
Anyway, a minor complicating factor (and something I omitted in my original post) is that I already had the dealer order the "speedster" kit - paid for it and everything. I know I can call them and say "Hey, I changed my mind," and they'd refund my money. But if possible, I want to patronize them, as it's in my interest for them to stay in business. I might call them and see if they could order the Parabellum, and what the cost differential would be over ordering directly.
One of the disadvantages the Speedster screen has is the lack of common mounts with the other two screens. The Sport and touring shields have 4 curved mounts so the screens have 4 mounting points, 2 under the triple tree and 2 down someplace by the turn signals. The Cee Bailys and probably Parabellum use these 4 piece mounts. There's a later "High mount" but I'm not really familar with it.
There are some here that really like the Sport screen and say it works well. I am not among that group. For me at 5'10 it allows too much rain, buffeting and debris to pass over it than I can put up with. However, mine is tinted and looks cool on the bike, so in the summer I put it on sometimes. I just can't go very far with it. Your Speedster screen will provide less coverage. Again, it may look cool, but does little more than keep the bugs off the instruments. If you like that short look, buy the Sport screen and you will always be able to move up to a taller screen without buying new mounts.

Thanks, Airman. I went for a nice 100 mile ride this afternoon, and came to a decision. I'm just gonna have the dealership order me the touring screen. I'll try that out for a while, and perhaps add a Laminar Lip, if I think it needs it.

I appreciate everyone's input and help with this.

There's no objectivity in windshields, I have three of them and a small fairing, but I think you're on the right track.
Maybe I'll go down and look at that Wunderlich wing thingy again. It might do the final trick on my Cee Bailys touring screen.
