The first safety mod is the addition of MotoLights. I had MotoLights on my R1150R and really liked them. The R needed the additional lighting for night driving as well as providing better daytime visibility. The F800ST has much better lighting for night driving but still needed something to help with daytime visibility. The next two pictures show the caliper mounted MotoLights and how I mounted the switch to the dash.
The second safety modification was to replace the rather wimpy horn with something that can get a clown's attention. I did a similar mod on the R where I placed dual FIAMM Freeway Blaster horns under the beak. It worked great and sounded like an old Buick. I couldn't find room for the dual Freeway Blasters on the F800ST. I wound up with a pair of PIAA disk horns (high tone / low tone). I mounted these in the same general area as the original horn. I had to fabricate a couple of mounting straps. It's louder, but not like what I had on the R.

Now for the convenience modifications. I installed a Garmin Nuvi 660. It's wired to the GPS power connector so it powers up with the ignition switch and turns off about 60 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off. I mounted the GPS to the handle bars using the standard RAM mounts.
I installed a Signal Dynamics LED battery gauge. It uses a single led to indicate the status of the battery/charging system. I wired it to the same power as the GPS. Since the LED stays on for about 60 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off, it looks like my bike has an alarm installed.
I also installed a larger foot for the side stand. I purchased this foot from Ilium Works. There are two models for the F800ST so you need to measure the length of the original foot to get the correct one.

And I added a tank bag. The dilemma here is I really don't have a 'tank' to deal with. I went with a 6L Marsee bag using the Corona mount. Typically, this mounts to the gas cap of the tank. That would put the tank bag just behind my right hip. So, I drilled some holes in the electronics cover and mounted it where a 'tank' bag was intended to be.
I have it just about the way I want it now. I do need to move the control wire for the MotoLights though. I used a switched power wire to control the relay and I need to use low beam power like CycleRob did. That was my original intention, but this other wire was so much easier to get to.
