A little too tall...

Post by WorkinMan »

Hey Guys, I'm thinking about adding another 1150R to the stable for the little woman but it's a little too tall for her. Does the "low" seat make any difference at all? Is there anybody here who would like to trade a 6000 mile standard seat for a low seat? Has anybody had a shorter seat made for them? If so, was the cost crazy? Thanks for any help.

The short seat lowers one's ass about an inch and three quarters. I have a 30" inseam and use the short seat. I couldn't push back out of a gravel parking space without it. The short seat is so thin, I don't think anything shorter could be fabricated without being pretty painful. (I also use an Airhawk inflatable cushion on it, which -- properly inflated -- doesn't add to the height.) There are suspension-lowering kits available, for another couple of inches, but they're not cheap.

Looking around, I see that it's pretty hard to find a bike with a particularly low seat...

Except for Harley-Davidson. #-o

Are there three different seats or two for the R1150R? I never specified a seat when I bought mine new in 2001. Whatever it came with is what I still have. I have seen the tall seat and it is not what I have. Does that mean I have the low seat? Or was there a medium seat? Either way, it seems to have plenty of padding and is quite comfortable.

I always felt that the R1100R sits a bit lower than the 1150. A little closer to the grips, too. Might be a better choice. Just thinkin'.

That's my understanding - stock normal was the medium. The Tall 'Comfort" and low seat were optional/after-purchase items.

yes, the R1100R sits lower, and has 3 seat height settings.

Cheers
