SET-SYSTEM-CASE-BMW-R1150-R by Fairing Factory, inexpensive.

Post by eduardobelmonte »

I wonder if any of you guys have bought this set of cases (left and right set) for the R1150R, for only 330 bucks plus 59$ shipping.

They are not BMW original, but the looks are identical.
The add says locks not included, but I emailed them and they say they are included.

The link is
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SET-SYST ... 826wt_1026

What would you think or know about them? :)

Thanks

My guess is that they were stolen and removed the BMW logos.

Looking at the language on the boxes the cases are probably knockoffs and appear to be from China, from what one can see in the ebay listing. I'd be very careful about picking up a set of these bags.

If you read into their advertisement, the company is suppose to be owed by a gentleman in Southern California that started producing cylinder guards, cases and other random parts out of a factory in China.

After visiting various sites, it appears that opinions are mixed in regards to their fairing kits. If you do go this route, let us know of the quality and durability.

The first time I saw these bags on e-bay, the sending location was China. I wouldn't buy them.

There are two sides to this. The first side: They are probably crap.

But the second side: honestly, cases would not be difficult to produce. Even reasonably high quality cases. The engineering and industrial expertise just isn't that hard. It is molded plastic for goodness sake. The only reason that BMW charges $50,000 for a set of cases is because they can. Not because they cost $50,000 to manufacture. It is possible these cases are completely serviceable. If the company has a return policy and a good rating, they're certainly worth a shot. If they're crap, send 'em back.

I would consider the type of plastic (brittle, thickness), color lasting, replacement parts, returning them if you have a problem, selling them if you need to..... I'll stick with BMW.

You can always contact some of the purchasers for feedback. I saw at least two of them.

Seller has a 99.1% positive feedback. Pretty good.

Quote from seller: "FairingFactory/ FairingMega eBay store,We are the largest aftermarket fairings manufacture in south China,R&D,sales in Taiwan".

Yes, the bags are Chinese knockoffs, but may be OK quality. Depends on how you feel about buying knockoffs.

Even BMW is making things in China (G650 engines).

Technically, they're only assembled in China, the parts are still manufactured by whoever made the F650(single) engines. May not seem like much of a distinction though, to most.
