It's not the HP that's the main difference, allegedly it's the low end torque and having a 2011 RT I maintain you can fell it somewhat. Not sure what it is but I just like the new motor. It also could be the RT as 1st gear seems much better than 1st on the R. I couldn't wait to get out of 1st on the R while the RT is nice for slow speed in 1st gear.Mark_1 wrote:Methinks more evolution than revolution. Nice refinements (shorter exhaust, new seat contour, new instrument cluster, small grab rails), but don't see anything that obsoletes the current R1200R.
New motor - ho hum (1 extra hp).
The "classic" does not appeal to me. No matter how much I try, just can't picture the R1200R as a "retro" bike.
Nice to see a traditional German racing silver (whatever you call it) is back. No white? Perhaps next year the classic will be white with a black stripe. Now that would be revolutionary!![]()

Looks like they finally got the message on the seat. It seems to come with the comfort seat as standard equipment.
I do like the red!
As for the black engine, they look great when new, but my K75 faded to gray over the years and I had to repaint it.

More like Alpine White with lots of Alpine White squiggly lightening bolts - similar to the bike in the "Cool custom R12R" post (http://www.r1150r.net/board/viewtopic.p ... 5cbdf451c8)deilenberger wrote:Mark - that's Alpine White with a White Stripe correct?Mark_1 wrote:I'm keeping the one I've got -2009 Alpine White.

White on white, very subtle and sophisticated.

The BMW write up says they are keeping the updated 2008 R1200R gear box. I agree that 1st is not very friendly at low speed maneuvering, do you think even more low end torque will help?dderrig wrote:...

When looking into the current R1200R model everyone commented on how the hex head was a great engine. Not a single person said person said the DOHC engine was much better and that I should wait for the new R1200R. In fact the service guys seem to really like the hex head. The new engine certainly freshens up the R1200R and has some nice refinements, but the refinements are not revolutionary.
Still keeping my white on white 2009.

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
Glad to see the new year models. I like the colors and the mods... especially the colors. The pictures had two different seats on the bikes and of the two seats one had no strap for the passenger. Probably the handles behind the seat are for the passenger. IMHO raising the passenger part of the seat gives the bike a sleeker look.
I thought the painted side panel looked thicker than before... maybe like the Rockster.
My only complaint is BMW could add a small shield to protect the instrument cluster... maybe even add to the housing itself.
My offer to sell my 08' at $15,000.00 still stands. Call me at BR5-555.

You can still get the optional flyscreen,, here's a pic:

Has anyone confirmed this will be available in US or Canada?

And the new instrument cluster seems to maybe allow more radical tilting of the flyscreen/windshield. All-in-all, I'm keeping my beloved hexhead (license plate HEXHED1). But if a big truck backs over my bike, I'm sure I'd be delighted with the new "Classic" R. BMW boxerbikes forever!

Nice evolution, little nips and tucks.
Sweet red color!
But, all in all, I'm still quite happy with my '07 - I'm actually a bit relieved. I'll wait for the next major upgrade.
I wonder how many of the '11 bits will be easy to adapt to an '07....

Love the dials. The old cluster is so unsuited to this bike. Well done, BMW! Wonder if the cluster could be retrofitted to my 2007. It looks like it might run on the same data inputs... Just a hunch...

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
Looked at the pics again.. time for some nit-picking.
The gauges on the "classic" need white faces with black #s
The "turbine" wheels on the standard look worse then the "stars" on the current model.
Again, just nit-picking/making excuse since I don't have the bread to buy one.

All these pics are clearly taken in San Francisco. No way would they do that if it wasn't coming here.tinytrains wrote:Has anyone confirmed this will be available in US or Canada?![]()

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
Questions. Does the ohc engine have the balance shaft that the hex head has?
Will my corbin seat from my 07 fit?
Will my luggage from my 07 fit?

I thought the same thing at first. Sort of looks like SF (bridge, cable cars, etc), but the look is not quite rite - looks more Mediterranean. The bridge is not the Golden Gate. A quick search for Op Art Cafe turns up Lisbon Portugal which also has a red orange suspension bridge (named the 25th of April).Tarmac wrote:All these pics are clearly taken in San Francisco. ...

I like it, esp the guages, and side profile with the seat/tank. If the new gauge cluster is retrofittable to an '08, I might consider it if the price is right (not likely). I"ll keep my eyes out for a used 2012 (give bmw a year plus to work bugs out) in year 2014 or so....
