Idles at 1450
My 2004 R1150R's idle slowly started creeping up recently. I have done a TBS and had my work checked by a competent mechanic. Valves all check out. My guess is a vacume leak somewhere. Any feedback from the forum would be appreciated. Thanks Roger

I've read where the little O rings at the inlet tubes to the TB's can degrade and start to leak air.
But have also read that the bushings in the TB shafts can wear with the same result.
Also check your connections from the TB's to the cylinder head.
Spraying a little WD sometimes can help isolate vacuum leaks, engine rpm will change.
I'm sure other folks on here are more experienced with your specific problem and will
chime in. Good luck.
Just in case - your brass screws aren't backing out from vibration are they?
And you haven't changed your fast idle cable length setting?

You could also check the wee rubber bung that goes over the spigot on the underside of the throttle body that you would attach a vacumn gauge to, as the rubber deteriorates over time. Whilst cleaning my bike last week I knocked it off and noticed there was a slight split on it, not enough to cause a air leak on mine but it could certainly allow a leak if left to deteriorate. Most dealers have a pile of them in stock and they are only about 60p, ($1), it's worth getting a couple of spares just in case.

Good idea, simple cause, simple fix. (the rubber caps on the vac fittings)
Just fyi on the throttle shafts, here's some great info

Re: Idles at 1450
Ok,
I finally broke the code on why my machine was idleing at 1450. The throttle cables were to tight.
Once I backed them off and set both BBAS at one and a half turns out. Then set up the Twin Max.
Balanced the idle at 1150. Then set the port cable to where it did not move until the throttle was advanced.
Then used the Twin Max to balance the throttle bodies at 3 and 4 K, all is now well. Actually she runs better than she ever has. The confusing thing about this is that it ran fine after I balanced the throttle bodies supervised by a competent mechanic. Then I could tell the TB balance was off and the idle climbed to 1450. My guess is that the throttle cable on the left side was not fully seated when I did the origional balance. All is well now. Lesson learned. Damn, I love this motorcycle. Roger

Yeah...that's what I was gonna say. Throttle cables too tight.
