New old fellah

Post by speedybrother »

G'day from Downunder

I have just purchased (awaiting delivery this coming Wednesday) of a 2011 R1200R SE . Bike is a metalic light grey machine, but thankfully it comes standard with lots of goodies - ABS, traction Control, electronic suspension, heated grips, On board computer with tyre pressure monitor, Sports windscreen and centre stand.

My other bike is a 2011 Merlot FLHR Road King (twice the wight and half the power), but like BMW's I think Harley's are also very cool.

In the past I have owned a R100RS, R850R, two R1100S, I am very much looking forward to my 5th BMW.

Cheers

Welcome to the club. Your new R12 sounds really exciting.

I highly recommend that over the next few days you spend as much quality time as possible with your RoadKing. I predict that within a week, you won't want to be bothered with your extra bike.

Well, I know the Roadking is a compromise, but my wife likes it. In fact, I can say hand on heart the Harley will only get an outing when the other half wants to go for breakfast. Think of my predicament, I will be re-calibrating my riding technique every time I change bikes.........for e.g. one with brakes that works, the other that will leave me with that feeling that I have had a catastrophic brake failure...............it is what it is.

Here in Oz, we are getting a choice of three colours in the 2011 R1200R SE model range: a metalic red, light grey metalic and a metalic matt graphite, oh and a black with white stripe classic model. The colour I have chosen was not available locally in the 2010 range.

Now I liked the looks of the classic, but you miss out on the centre stand and tyre monitor, apparently this is because they have to run a tubed tyre. The spoked wheels are NOT like on the R1200GS which I understand use a tubeless tyre.

Also, all the trick stuff is now standard on the R1200R SE in the Australian market place. Last year all of the good stuff would have added about $5,000,00 more to the price.

Cheers

Which state are you in speedybrother? I ordered the matt graphite, but it wont be here until April/May. I will just have to wait, not far I guess. One of the good things about Oz, you can ride all year round! :)

I'm in Sydney, I wanted the graphite matt colour, but too was told May, June delivery. Whereas with the light grey metalic R1200R SE there were three in Melbourne (now there are two). Evidently, the R1200R SE is new for 2011, hence the additional kit and of course the twin cam (HP2) motor. I have had the dealer confirm the bike is a 2011 twin cam model. The dealer is Procycle St.Peters.

Congratulations!. Please take a picture and post when your get it. I haven't seen a real pic of that color and all the manufacturer pics look washed out like the bike is white. Enjoy the new ride, I'm sure the Harley will start to feel a little lonely....

Dav, I note there is a few R1200R owners on the board and here in Sydney, so yes if we can get aligned for a run this would be a great idea. I just gotta "wait awhile"............

So far we have in Sydney;

Mvk (M.I.A. already with his new R1200R) Have you got off the bike yet?
Speedybrother (Tuesday night will be a restless one for sure. Eagerly awaiting his bike pick up tomorrow!)

People,

Always up for a ride, where and when?

The latest news from dealer is delivery either Wednesday or Thursday. My biggest problem is that I will be in Perth this weekend and wishing I was riding the new aquisition somewhere south of Sydney.

Me me me! But so far I've been unavailable for the Sydney rides ... mind you, if you're only going to Brooklyn, I'll bring a more suitable vehicle ... my Vespa!

I'd definitely be up for a decent run in a couple of weeks ... I have a hankering to do the "loop" - home / Windsor / Denman / Bylong / Rylstone / Oberon / Goulburn / home ... OK so it's 900km.

7:30am arr Windsor (Macca's McGrath's Hill)
8am depart - Putty Road
leg strech / drink stop wherever
Bylong Valley Way
Noon (~320km - 1 tank @ ~legal speeds) Rylstone
2pm Oberon - lunch
Abercrombie River - Taralga road
5pm (~310km - 1 tank) Goulburn
6pm Berrima - dinner
7pm .. off home

For most, that'd be a 6:30am to 9 pm day ... perfect for Autumn .. who said "masochist"?

Too far?
Then Richmond / Bell / Mt Vic / Oberon / Goulburn / Berrima / home?
Or Windsor / Denman / Rylstone / Bathhurst / Oberon / Bell / Richmond / home?
Or Albion Park / Jamberoo Mtn / Bundanoon / Taralga / Oberon / Bell / Richmond / home?
