I tried this today but instead of using a chopping board I used some plywood. It all seems very sturdy and secure. Now the question is, will this be strong enough to hold or am I going to lose my box on the highway?

Re: Another top-box solution
Well i guess I answered my own question. I was tinkering about in the garage and just wasnt 100% sure the plywood would be good enough. Nipped down to the local shopping centre and bought a chopping board and made a new plate out of this. Far better job and I'm feeling happier now!
Wife got 3 new knives into the bargain!!

Problem with wood is that it doesn't resist vibration too well.
Friend of mine had a racebike for the ManxGP with a battery holder made out of ply and it disintegrated about half-way round the first lap.
(luckily the bike just cut out).

As a pro wood worker I'll comment that Morgans were made with wood frames and many aircraft too-problem is the construction, etc., not having used plywood as a material.

The issues come I think where you have a vibratory metal eating away the wood.
